Check out Trad's build. He hand "buffed" up his 4:1 stainless pipe using ScothBrites. It's not a high polish, but it sure does look magnificent. He said it took just a few hours to do the entire system.

cool...traditional thought is that short, big diam. primaries build peak high rpm horsepower and the 4-2-1 arrangement brings back the mid range?...but in reality I feel like there are so many complex systems at play that 4 stroke pipe design is really just experience of what works and sheer luck. I am guessing Hindle has as good a handle on the voodoo involved as anybody.

I'm hoping you're right Sean. As it is (Yosh Daytona cam, CR26 carbs with straight shot intake manifold and MRieck stage III head work) this thing like to rev but midrange is vital on a street bike. Hindle has been in the exhaust game for a long long time so fingers crossed. We'll know come spring, I guess.

I cannot remember if you ended up buying the Ripple Rock frame brace, too. If so, have you had a chance to install it? I picked one up (for my 550/650 project), and I'm going to (instead) install it on my stockish 550. Flatlander had asked what I thought of it, but I have not used it, yet. Have you?

Yes, I purchased the frame brace too. Haven't installed it yet because I want to anodize it black first.
I will make a new aluminum support arm once the muffler is installed and then anodize the few items I have.
Winter is setting in fast so I'm bummed to say that test results will be a while yet. The brace looks cool though.

You know Jimmy, you could be the first person to provide Kemp a sound clip of a CB550 snorting and belching fire out the exhaust to be available to tickle the cochlear hairs of potential customers!

I think that there's also a line forming of people that want to know what it sounds like...

So, does that inspire you to action; with a mere 25 days before Christmas?

Thanks for the nudge David. It does help to get me motivated but the sub-freezing weather has me thinking otherwise. If I can get a teaser together I certainly will.

Killing the winter blues with a little tinkering in the lab.

I found this cool Lucas style headlight which will provide a bit more room for wiring but needs longer fork ears. Will have to make some nice aluminum parts this week.

Nothing says "Committed" like cutting welded headlight mounts.
The weld penetration is amazing.
Not a single void even after milling one side flush.
These are going to be excellent mount tabs.

No, just an old photo of the mounts prior to cutting.
Same triples (pre-anodize) and clip-ons too.

Found these amazingly small but super bright (200+ lumen) flush mount LED signals.
Going to mount them on the top side of the fork ears. Half way between the headlight and forks.

Do I see an opportunity? Those long, blank sides of the headlight ears seem to be asking for something...like maybe engraving? Holes? Starship ID logo? Anti-traffic mortar mounts?
