Killing the winter blues with a little tinkering in the lab.

I found this cool Lucas style headlight which will provide a bit more room for wiring but needs longer fork ears. Will have to make some nice aluminum parts this week.

Nothing says "Committed" like cutting welded headlight mounts.
The weld penetration is amazing.
Not a single void even after milling one side flush.
These are going to be excellent mount tabs.

No, just an old photo of the mounts prior to cutting.
Same triples (pre-anodize) and clip-ons too.

Designing new (bolt on) headlight ears.

Found these amazingly small but super bright (200+ lumen) flush mount LED signals.
Going to mount them on the top side of the fork ears. Half way between the headlight and forks.

Do I see an opportunity? Those long, blank sides of the headlight ears seem to be asking for something...like maybe engraving? Holes? Starship ID logo? Anti-traffic mortar mounts?

Nice work on those! I would put the turns in the centre of the two bolts closest to the fork tube, then centre to the top edge. That's just one Mans opinion though.

Nice and sleek. I like that they are out of the way. As long as they are super bright during the day then it almost doesn't matter where you put them on the bracket.

I would ensure they are easily higher than the dome of the bolt ahead. As long as 200+lumens is always brighter than your headlight they will be visible past the corona of the headlamp. Not an issue I am guessing. 60w house lightbulbs are like 530 lumens for old incadescent.

I am thinking... Put it at the back close to or covering top bolt...
Then mill out most of the lite bracket...half thickness of material...leaving about 5/8 wide of full thickness around the edges and bolt holes.... When that is done paint the thinner part red..same as headlite shell.
If you cant visualize it..sorta like that cut thinner part of the brake handle..but way bigger.

I'd considered milling as suggested and inlaying a carbon fibre insert but I don't have the equiptment and skill to mill the front. Do you have access to your milling machine?

I have one i can use part time, and my rotary table is there..
Its across town and hard to get out there for me right now,been snowing lots, roads are crap.
When are you up next... Bet you would enjoy visiting "that place" while we futz about on your parts...

We get to see that on TV about one of the Wrecker service companies that keep that highway cleared of wrecks of the big commercial stuff. Interesting show and nice scenery. Hi Frank! Great to hear ya got milling available, how about lathe?

My lathe is up and running, sitting between two milling machines.. That i get to use a bit..

Those turn signals are awesome! If mine was more modern looking I would throw those on there for sure. This is one of my favorite 550s for sure.
