Actually the intake tract is approx. 20mm shorter than the stock intake tract using this setup, and I think that moves the power up the RPM range slightly. Moving the carbs a bit closer to the engine will also provide that little bit of extra pod clearance in #1 & #4 too.

really? to me it looks like the spacer plate is adding it's thickness to the length of the intake tract or are the 550 intakes that much longer than the kz? sorry, I'm not familiar with the 550...

FJ - you planning on putting a nasty cam in that 550? I'm waiting for my motowerks exh as well, should really wake up these motors. Your intake manifold/spacer looks like an elegant solution for a straight in intake runner. Did you derive a specific intake length for performance?

Nice to hear from you again. I've got a WebCam sitting here waiting to go in, so hopfully the combination will work well together. Didn't factor in anything on the intake tract except providing a bit more room for the pods. If it sucks then I'll consider adding more runner length.

The 11mm Brembo master cylinder came in about a week ago and it feels fantastic.
I haven’t had the bike out for a ride, but it passes the garage squeeze test hands down over the 13mm.

Just when you think you’ve got it all sorted out, you find another obstacle.
What to do when your fuel petcock is in constant contact with the carb?
Motion Pro sells an inline fuel tap. This will solve the interference issue but there's no reserve so pay attention to fuel levels.

Incredible 550F!!! I really enjoyed reading your build thread and seeing the amazing transformation on your 550 from start to finish! Beautiful machining/finish work on all of the custom bits and pieces!

I just joined SOHC/4 a month or so ago, and as I was reading through your thread and looking at the photos, for some reason I felt like I was having a case of Deja vu, and although I couldn't quite put my finger on it, it seemed like I had seen your 550 Interceptor before...

Well, it turns out I wasn't crazy (this time), and as I downloaded some photos today off my old cell-phone, it finally made sense:

Again, complements on the awesome, one of a kind, CB and I'm glad I found the SOHC 4 forums so I could finally learn about that awesome 550 I saw three years ago...

I love blingy billet aluminum parts, but in the real world they just don’t hold up all that well without constant care and attention, that’s one of the reasons I anodize my aluminum bits.
I also find that an anodized part looks finished and more subtle in the scheme of things. Intake manifolds finished.

I’ve been having reliability issues with cheap ebay LED signals so I decided to try a set of Harrison Specialties billet aluminum mini bullet signals on the rear.
They’re not cheap, but the LED clusters are easy to swap out and the clusters themselves are quite reasonable.

Because the rear signals are an integral part of the fender mounting system, I had to spin up some stalks and grommet inserts.
These LED’s are super bright and of excellent quality.

So, when you switch from the factory airbox to pods, what do you do with all the space left vacant between the battery and the electrical components?
I know that many builders will relocate the electrical panel and battery into the bump of a café seat and open up the frame to create a minimal effect, but I firmly believe that the side covers define the Super Sport so they stay.

If ever there was a complaint with these old bikes, it would have to be the lack of storage space, as there is hardly enough room to carry a small tool kit and insurance documents.
That vacant space will make a fine storage compartment suitably sized to carry tools, documents, the GPS when I’m off the bike, a rotor lock and a spare pair of gloves if needed.

This is the plug that will be used as a mold to fab up a carbon fiber glove box tucked neatly under the seat.
It required a tapered shape so it wouldn’t be seen protruding between the frame tubes or under the side covers.
