Bud Eakins
« on: October 13, 2007, 12:26:11 PM »
Bud Eakins passed away--age 77.
The moment in 1962, when I saw Eakins jump that fence in
"The Great Escape", my life was changed-the deal was sealed.

I read that when Steve McQueen was filming "Bullitt", the stunt man didn't show for the chase scene where the bad guys ran a motorcycle for the road  into a slide. Steve called Bud and he came out and did it on his lunch hour in one take. We lost a good biker friend.

I didn't know that Bud did the jump or drove the Mustang till he passed.
Always thought Steve did it and "On Any Sunday" even gave me that impression.
RIP Bud.

It's really too bad...  I heard he was gonna be at the Barbour Vintage Festival to give a talk and sign autographs.

Farewell Bud!  :'(
