stock cb550 carb settings
« on: October 12, 2007, 11:15:05 am »
Greetings all, I was wondering if anyone had the knowledge of needle and float settings for 1976 cb550 carbs running a stock airbox-  I have set the floats to 22mm as per the clymer and other sources, but cannot find reliable information on the needle setting or the proper main jet size-some speak of #90 mains, but my rebuild kits came with #100 mains.  Upon dissassembly, my needles were at 2nd up from the bottom notch-one source quoted specs of 2nd down from the top for one model carburetor or 3rd down from the top for another model carb both of which were supposedly found on '76 cb550s.  So to all with '76 cb550s or those who have rebuild carbs for them, where were the needles set, and did this seem to be the proper setting for the stock airbox?  I"m expecting I need to move up at least one notch.  Many thanks, Pat

that spec sheet is great.

Do you have all the settings for the '78 cb550k, I don't see the needle position?

thanks,

Mark

My interpretation is that if the 78 were different from the 77 it would so state.  But, that is the only spec sheet I have besides the Honda shop manual K3 supplement (which lists the 77 specs as above).

that is a good resource, thank you for posting it, now I've got my carburetion all figured out, which has led me to the true problem of a broken valve spring, here we go again.
