quick and easy oil cooler

some time ago i discovered that the oil filter housing on a cb350f and the cb650 is longer, holds more oil and therefore has more cooling ability than the standard filter housing.  mine has been in service for thousands of miles and has performed well.  i like this solution better than the other arrnangement.  it may be that the filter housings in the dohc models will also substitute.

Please post a picture so we can see the difference in the sizes of the oil filter housing.  A side-by-side comparison would be really handy.  Also, the bolt for the oil filter should be longer, but will the width and thread be the same as my CB550?  I would hate to get another oil filter housing and bolt, and then the bolt wouldn't fit my bike.

Actually they don't have a longer housing, they have a separate "heat sink plate" that sits between the filter housing and the engine block that "wicks off" heat via the fins on it's outer surface.

Just like the longer housing method described above, this "cooler" is pretty ineffective, compared to a remote cooler radiator system, which moves the oil away from the hot engine and thru a cooling radiator.

I've no doubt that tntrainman's system works well on his bike, but so does the standard bike with the standard oil filter housing, in normal service. If you ride a bike in hotter temperatures, or do a lot of canyon racing or commuting, then buy a cooler. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry is quite right,for more cooling,remote cooler is advised.However,more oil,even a few ounces is also agood idea.Myself,I use a 400F housing ,internal spacer ,and  bolt on my 1100F.Just makes me feel better.I prefer this to the 750F setup as it adds volume as opposed to just a heat sink.Provided your ex. pipes clear the longer housing,this is an easy bolt on and uses stock 750 filter element.Always remember to never over tighten;20-23 ft.lb.
