Many are aware that I scan Craigslist nationwide in hopes to find a free parts bike or free bike or a cheap bike to work on.  When they are outside of my reach, I post them in the classified section.  No, I have not personally grabbed up a free SOHC, but others have...  so despite all the grumbling about how I am spamming up the classified section, I continue to hunt for free bikes and list them in the classifieds so others can harvest these free bikes.  In the midst of my search for the past couple of weeks, I've been seeing this listing:

Quote
I have a large garage with electric. You could use it for just about anything that you needed all i ask is that you have a street bike for trade. I would like a harley but anything may do, ill just have to see it first.

The link to the actual listing is here

When I read this listing, I have to wonder if anyone would take him up on the offer and if anyone has already.  Luckily, I live in the South, so storage isn't really an issue.  It's warm enough that we don't get snow.  It doesn't really freeze.  I'm fortunate enough to have a mechanic/carpenter shop that is about the size of a 2 car garage.  So, storage really isn't an issue to me...

So the real question is:

How many of you would actually let a stranger drive your SOHC in exchange for free storage?

I wouldn't, but I read the ad as someone wanting a bike of his own. In exchange for a bike, you can have his storage space. I don't think he means you can store your bike there as long as he gets to play with it. But I've been wrong before.

You're right.  I was confusing this ad with an ad that was posted where the guy actually says that you can park your bike in his garage if you let him ride it every once in a while.

People grumble?  I'm glad you post your craigslist finds.

No way I'd let someone ride my bike in exchange for storage.

1) If they don't have their own bike, they probably don't have a clue how to care for one.

2) If it isn't their bike, they'll probably "ride it like they stole it".

Hope, you could always make one post that is "Hope's Craigslist finds" and just add to it.  I can see some peoples' irritation when the first page of the unread topics in my list are your Craigslist finds.  I usually just click through them though and wish I was close enough to get some of them.

-Just a thought.

That's actually a really good idea.  That way you can still post all of your finds for those who enjoy looking through them but without filling up the whole page.

Ride my bike, HA, NEVER!  One of the members here offered to let me take his bike for a spin around the block, but I just couldn't do it.  How do say, "Sorry man, I dumped your bike.  It handled great until......"  I don't want to be on either end of that conversation.

I love to see your posts, although starting a "Hopes craigslist" thread may be the answer.  I think it would be the middle ground that would make everyone happy.

I let my awards winning dirtbiker brother ride my bikes twice. He brought them back crashed both times! But he did pay to have them fixed ;D

Interesting post.      No.

The whole issue of insurance, liability, maintenance, wear and tear etc etc would make the idea iffy at best.

What if you have "two" bikes that need to go to a local bike ride? I usually ride each 750 on alternate weeks...or the CBR if it may rain...but the guys are bugging me to show up with both at once.  ???

stiill not reason to allow some stranger to ride your bike. You dont know their riding history for one and for secondly...they are unfamiliar to your particular bike with its lil quirks that it may have..so with that said...theres no way in hell i would allow someone else to ride my bikes unless i know their riding history...theres only one other rider of my Interceptor and thats my roomate only because he helped me to relearn how to ride as well as allowing me the chance to ride his Interceptor when he got it. but im just as particular as to who drives my 4 wheeled rides as well...the truck..eh..thats debatable but thats because its my dd...my Camaro on the other hand..hells no...
