I thought this thread was dead long ago but as it has been "revived" I guess it's right to write an update about the outcome.
A couple weeks after I opened the thread, the plants disappeared. I just thought the planter "harvested" them or some other neighbour simply cut them off. I happen to have a good relationship with the gardener, and one day I met him at the hardware store -he was buying some piping for some other customers-. We were talking about our garden -as I helped him out to find a shorted electric valve-, how it was recovering, and asked him with a "wink wink" about some "special plants" that I found. I also thought they could be his, but the guy started laughing and asked me "Did you see them". I replied "EVERYBODY saw them. Whose were the plants". He told me that a neighbour told him one day in a quiet voice to "please leave alone some plants he had planted". By his description I assummed it was the same guy I thought about. The gardener told him he has already seen them and that it was OK by him, but they were pretty obvious and some other neighbours could discover them. The "planter" frightened a bit realizing that his little "secret" was not that "secret" and he removed the plants the same or the next day.
I asked the gardener whether that guy was stupid by planting them in such a conspicuous place. The gardener told me it was the best place because only there would the plants get the right amount of sunlight.
