Nice.. Please post a vid (I am sure you will anyway) when you get it running, would love to hear what that Twin sounds like..

.: Scott :.

Mine, 2-1 pipes with no muffler. I cut a minutes off the beginning that was just me kickstarting it. It can be hard to get going when it hasn't run in awhile.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Thanks Spikey.. I have 2 things keeping me from that, 1 work.. Gonna see if I can get some one to fill in for me.. 2 my charging is not working or at least is weak. I am checking that out when I get done with work today..

That does sound very good MJL. I love the deep thump sound. Not irritating like some British bikes but very cool.. Hum.. Straight pipes there Spike?  ;D

Ok.. As soon as I know about work I will know more. Right now the charging system seems to be working, when I rev the bike the meter connected to the battery shows a strong charge so not sure what is going on, however it should not be an issue..

Did you want this for your KZ project? I had it on the 550, however it was just too long, it made the bike stand up as if it were on the center stand and I was always worried the bike would tip over in a gust of wind, or if it were nudged at all.. If you want it, its free of charge of course... You can see it in my avatar image..

four-shot!!!    i was starting to think you were done with this forum  ;D ;D  i'm gonna have to get over to your place and see your wifes KZ .. maybe get/give some ideas

Been busy getting the bike up and running. with Dee geting laid off for the summer Ive been trying to get it all situated before things get real tight.

I like the chain guard...looks good.  I say go with the slip ons... I like the look that a pair of megaphones has.

Hey, what do you use to clean your bright metals? My pipes are starting to rust and I want to catch it before they pit.

and I didn't give up on the forum, I just prefer to lurk.

Ok.. Done deal its yours.. We just need to get it to you.. Perhaps the fastest way would be via Mail.. Your address the same as when I sent the Tank Kreem? I will also send the spring in case you want to use it on the 550...

really not in much of a typing mood ...so i'll let the pics tell most of the tale

this pattern was a pain in the ass to lay out for some reason ...the math was working against me

no mistakes yet

getting the point now are you

my plan is to bend the gauge bracket so the face of the gauge is lined up with the dummy lights
i'm waiting untill i have the speedo to to do it so i can bend both brackets at once, that way they are the same

did some work to the exhaust ..far from done

and while waiting for stuff to cool off or dry .. i layed down an initial layer of bondo

Man its looking awesome. Did you make the exhaust closer to the frame? Seems to be closer then the one on the right..

Figured out a color for the fender?

i'm doing the frame ,fender and headlight bucket in olive drab green..."spec ops style ;D ;D" (if i like it)   ..the motor will be flat black, polished fins (satin, not fully polished) and i'm leaving the cases just as they are . (hand buffed with mothers)

and i was having a conversation with a female friend of mine about the bike  ...and she didn't think too highly of the swirl on the tank ..   then i say "well that sucks, thats my favorite part of the bike" ..and so a debate ensued ... with an end result of :
1.the swirl pattern is very cool looking
2.to cover the whole tank in it is kinda overkill
3. it's not possible to swirl the edges and make it look right (she got me there)
4.with the tough look i'm wanting , swirling the tank  (a direct quote) "looks kinda girly"  ......:o really? girly?

so i'm thinking i'm gonna put some OD green on the tank too .. something for around the edges , or some kind of accent design on the sides .. ..apparently raw steel scratched up with an angle grinder is "girly"   ::)

If you were spraying clear from a gun you could add a small amount of the green so you can still see the swirl on the tank....I just had a thought......swirl rhymes with girl.......she may be onto something Spikey.... ;D

Go with your gut man.. My inital thought on the lights were how cool.. so don't over think it.. I would wait for the Speedo for sure then see how it all looks together..

If you were spraying clear from a gun you could add a small amount of the green so you can still see the swirl on the tank...

oh i'm not getting rid of the swirl pattern ...just gonna tone it down a little ..add some accents and trim it up. ..but if i don't like it  i'll just go with my original plan and swirl the whole thing (i'm kinda used to people thinkin my bike looks girly  ;) )

...I just had a thought......swirl rhymes with girl.......she may be onto something Spikey.... ;D
i won't even dignify that with a response ....... oh wait, i just did....shyt

Go with your gut man.. My inital thought on the lights were how cool.. so don't over think it.. I would wait for the Speedo for sure then see how it all looks together..
well i do agree that i should wait till i get the speedo to make a decision on the lights .. i DO really, really like the concept , but the execution is a little less than desirable to me (they're too tall)... i'm sure the speedo not being there is just adding to that too

and another fact that is swaying my opinion a little, is that i'm just used to looking at the CB one (4 lights in a row)

i'm either gonna leave it.. or only run 4 lights in a straight line (closer to the bars)  ..if i do change it , i'll probly ditch the brights indicator and keep both signal indicators    ....oh wait ..i'm not suppose to be over thinking right?  ;D ;D

Have you considered smaller lights? Maybe l.e.d.s? I like the layout like it is, just on a smaller scale. one of these days when I'm in a better mood Ill get up there and look at it.

the lights i got are neon .. because i wanted it to look more "period correct" .. if i coulda found incandescent lights that fit , i woulda

i'm really not too keen on putting l.e.d.'s on a classic style vintage bike ...  if i had a bunch of other modern stuff i would , but not for this build

LMAO.. You are funny.. I laughed so hard at the "over think it" part.... Anyway the bike could be worth more some day when he grows up and becomes famous, you can say that is his dent..  ;D Truthfully I would leave it also..

I understand about the heat man I do.. The A/C has been busted in my Blazer for weeks now.. Gotta get it fixed..

Have a good weekend man..

I wonder if some early cb750 gauges would work on your Kaw, the kind with the idiot lights built in?

if i ever find some of those early gauges , I'd put um on the CB before the KZ anyway  ;D ;D

I'm pretty happy with the way the cockpit is shaping out  .. I'm just my toughest critic , and it had to grow on me for a few days ... i like the little tiny gauges, and the dummy light housing isn't finished yet ... so no judgments yet  ;D
