I wanted to lower mine, but finding shocks was an issue. I think there are some 10.5 Sporty (or other HD) shocks around, but I never tried them.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

lowering changes handling in curves

there i fixed that for ya

technically , since all i did was push the forks up an inch , there is no change in the dampening what so ever .. and lowering a bike in the rear doesn't ruin anything , the ride gets stiffer, and you gotta lean a little more ...that's all

and i'm not lowering the rear on this bike

i thought your harley was a rigid?    .. and in any case , when i lowered my 550 , it did change a little , but not enough to say it "ruined" anything

the stance of the KZ was really tall up front (stock) .... almost chopper-ish , it really needed to loose that inch  ;D ;D (maybe more)

I dig your work. love the fact that you're not spending $ but making something cool, nonetheless. I dig the swirls and the paint, very cool. very street level.

I think if we weren't so far apart we would have met by now. tattoos, bikes, punk. people w/ common interests tend to collide or converge at some point.

i got the cockpit pretty much how i want it .. was a cloth taped wrappin fool most of yesterday ,

re-did the seat . with twice the padding , filled the gap between the seat and the tank a little better

gotta battery finally , waiting on the ignition switch so i can see if all the wiring is good or not
then all thats left is to finish the exhaust and clean the carbs , so i can try and get it running to see how much work the motor needs (if any) ... then get new tires and a chain

it's gonna be a Triumph style exhaust with an H pipe around the oil pan area ... turn outs , and little "pea shooter" style mufflers ....

pretty much like this , but with mufflers about half the size (if i can find um) .. oh yeah and it'll be wrapped (not sure on the color of the wrap yet , i'm leaning towards the off white )

my brother (four-shot) is gonna make some pipe pieces for me at his work (Midas) , they have a pipe bender (not a mandrel bender though  :'( )

so it will be pieced together on the bike , welded up , then wrapped ... realistly , this most likely won't get done for awile ..  but it is next on the list

That should be fine. I bet it looks fabulous. I would think off white would work best, black would just blend in too much.

2 questions...

1) Is there an advantage of the H pipe design as oppssed to 2 straight pipes with out the H?

2) Whats the difference between a pipe bender and a mandrel bender... (short version ok)..

Thanks,

1. when i was researching it on the kawi twin forums , it seems the KZ twins just run better with the H pipe ( witch is why kawi switched over to a 2 to 1 )
----pretty much once i read that i didn't dig into why  .. i thought it would be just enough of a pain in the ass , to be fun to make

2 . a pipe bender (non-mandrel)  bends the pipe with little kinks in the bend ..( think, cheap AutoZone tail pipe.. the one at my bro's work doesn't do them that bad ,but just so ya know what i'm talking about )  a mandrel bender keeps the radius of the pipe the same all through the bend (for a smoother look and better flow)

Ah.. ok got it.. I was not clear if there was a difference and if so why.. That took care of it. I suppose the H pipe, provides more back pressure, however I am still unclear why that is needed given on performance bikes its all about flow.. How ever many here have mentioned that its good to have so I figure that's a good enough reason. You are correct, it should be fun to fab..
