Well, it's steering stem will fit your 72s headstock.  It is different than your stock piece though.  The holes in the 77 trees for the fork tubes are the same distance apart as your 72s but they are closer (front to back) to the steering stem.  This will shorten your wheel base and affect front end geometry. Honda did this to improve handling but the later bikes also had longer swing arms. On the upper section, the holes for the gauge bracketry are likely different and there are provisions for mounting the ignition switch. There will be less rise built into the handlebar mounts.  There are also holes to mount up a front brake line splitter on the lower section . . . . .

Thanks Eurban for the very informative reply. I think Ill need to pass then. I was looking at this Ebay auction for my cafe CB750K2 but I dont want to alter the wheelbase so I wont be bidding anymore. However if anyone has a nice chrome or polished triple tree for a 72 let me know!!

Certainly to use that part you would need the lower section as well since the front to back fork tube locations are different.  If this fellow is correct then perhaps the F top clamp actually has more rise built in and its the stock F handle bars alone that are reason for the more sporting riding position

Your tubes will probably hit your tank on one or both sides..I did it because I had a chrome lower and I keep pulling the tank back.. have to change instruments except 72 and up might fit or be made to work.
