First ride report ported, F cam, 836 kit

I just got the first real ride on my K0 since I took it apart. I powder coated the frame and got a replacement wiring harness. We did a few tricks in Hondamans book, E bay 836 kit and mild ported the head. The engine is a K4, it came in the bike when I got it.
There is a small oil leak at the cam cover somewhere right in center front. It cackles a lot on decell and the idle is high. I suspect a vacuum leak, the rubbers are a bit hard and the clamps are worn.
 As far as acceleration, Holy crap! Wouldn't want to twist the grip unless I was prepared. Torquey and pulls hard. Even with the 18/48 tooth sprockets.  I haven't checked cranking compression yet but it feels high on the kicker.

Bout time you got the old girl going, hope the oil leak is something easy to sort, you might be lucky and it is something simple like the tacho cable, time will tell.
I'm glad your happy with the performance as you were agonising over what to do  ;D sounds like a nice combo to me.

Like the old saying goes "There's no replacement for displacement". Glad you got a first ride and report under your belt. Couple of quick questions-what year F cam did you use,what pipe are you running,points or electronic, and what have you used so far for jetting ? Might be a help for others out there.  ;)

Surely an old plumber has some sort of leak stop goop?!  :D
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I have been a pipe dope.
I used a 77F cam, against advise here, I got it in a $20 engine. Sometimes I gotta learn the hard way.
 Top secret (don't tell the gang it fits) The header is a factory 77f, 4-1 with a homemade 2 1/4" x 18" long muffler. I couldn't use my 76F header or 77 header with the custom 76 muffler due to the angled and smaller collector. I'm still working on a baffle, the current one was provided by a contadina tomato paste can!
 Stock points and so far 130 mains in the F0 carbs on a new 4 into 1 cable. it idles amazingly well considering I haven't synched the carbs.
 My tach is reading high, I've got another one to try I didnt wind it tight until it's broken in some and I know for sure where the rpm's are.

No reason not to use a 77 F cam as long as it's useable!

Some think the F2 cam slams the valve closed too hard. After looking at the Kenny Harmon F cam I have I thought the F was a better choice. The guy I got it from has a new F2 cam in the package for a hundred. I haven't caught him at home since I was there.
 If the race car ever gets out of my wallet for a month or two, I'll get it painted. I have the RX for candy blue green out in the shop.

I also had an oil leak at the bottom of the sump tank. I bought new crush washers today, hopefully that will do it. A float valve is sticking, just small stuff thank goodness.
