VFR stator/rotor in a CB550?
« on: November 05, 2012, 02:16:01 PM »
i was reading other threads related to increasing power output on a honda CB... and i got some hints of people thinking a VFR stator and rotor might work... i was wondering if this is true?... since i am going with a cafe, that means smaller battery, and i would like to add GPS for traveling so i think despite the direction i go with this bike in terms of fuel delivery, starting system, whatever, it would be nice to get more juice out of the electrical system to have when i need it

so... yeah, has anyone done this, or seen it done? if so, from which bike specifically were the stator and rotor taken from, and if you havent seen this, some speculation as to what could work could be useful too

Good luck with increasing the output. I really dont think you can change the stator for an increase, but I could be wrong. The 550 was barely adequate in stock form. I think with new wiring, new connections etc, the best you can hope for is making the existing system as efficient as possible. Some 550 guys even shut off their headlights at stops to save juice. I think running around with a GPS on might leave you with a few towing expenses. Besides, GPS is for touring bikes anyway, not bare bones cafe. It's your bike so do whatever you wish , just my .02

i should consider getting a smaller dedicated GPS like that... my tablet is probably much too large to comfortably use, do you use that GPS for your speedometer as well?

also, andy... its not so much whether the battery is enough or not, but whether or not it would be enough after the battery has been scaled down and hidden under a cafe seat cowl

LOL. I guess that shows how much I know. Is moisture a concern with that GPS, or do you just unplug it if you get caught in  a shower.

That's a waterproof Garmin nuvi550.
No problem in the rain, but I don't use the bike for commuting and rarely get caught in rain.

Where's the "Like" button? :) I like this bike more and more every day. I'd love to do some really long road trips and some of us are "directionally challenged". I love my GPS.
