I still have not found a gas cap replacement for my Tracy either?

I even dragged the body work through a few wrecking yards?

Well i'll post as soon as I find something that fits, for now i'm trying to sort out the paint scheme now that Toxic has me thinking about it again lol.

Oh and yes it is an S281 in the background, you can see my Ducati frame/rolling chassis when that was torn down in the background of one of the pics too, and the flourescent red wheels of a custom FZ750 that was mine but then I built it up and painted it for a buddy of mine in exchange for free storage for life of my RX7 and various bikes in a heated garage.

The wiring harness I saw on parts-n-more is listed as '73-'75. Is this the one you used that works perfect for your K6? If so, that is quite a load off my mind.

It's not exactly the same, but i'll be modifying it where need be to work...or I could be wrong and it's exactly the same. Honestly i'm not sure, I havn't looked at the wiring diagrams since I ordered it way back when. The harness on my bike was so screwed up I can't even compare it to that to see...lol.

Well I got an Action4 kitted motor, extra wiring harness, coils, ignition system, tank, seat unit and fairing from member 736cc on here...so I think i'll be using those instead. His Habermann(sp?) tank I got holds 5 gallons...double the tracy kit! So i'll be painting the Tracy setup and selling it. I might keep the carpy seat or my spare stock one so I can go two-up if/when I want to.

Anyways, back to work on the bike...yeah i'll get some more pics soon. Trying to finish my winter beater truck still.

Ok I have some before and after pics to upload of the Habermann tank. I'm stripping it down to fiberglass and starting over with it. The gas cap filler hole is a little cockeyed and it has been repaired on the top at some point in the past which might explain that...also it was orange/gold at one point not silver and black lol. I used fiberglass chemical stripper for most of it then the last few coats I used media blasting to get it down to fiberglass so as to not risk stripper leeching into the fiberglass. I'm at work doing all this stuff on the clock hehe.

I'll be re-repairing the top of the tank in order to fix the gas cap issue that wasn't a big deal but bugged me. Then repainting it at some point. When I get home this afternoon i'll try and upload some pics. Things are moving along again finally. Wheels are laced and having the tires mounted monday. I should have her in rolling chassis next week if classes and work don't get in the way too much.

Hey Collin.

Sorry to read about the problems with the body kit man.  I don't know much about the kit other than what I told you initially in PM.  It came on the bike when I bought it, I despised the look, and wanted to go stock for my restore.  I knew the tank would require some repairs, but had I known just how bad it was, I wouldn't have sold it.  Really sorry about the problems with the body kit man.

Lol no no no, the Tracy kit is fine! Well except for finding a replacement gas cap.

I got a Habermann 5 gal tank and seat combo from another member that is getting all this repair work done to it!

I decided against the Tracy setup because of the lack of fuel capacity.

Ok so mockup isn't happening as fast as i'd like...but I want to get some brackets shaved off my frame in the mean time. I won't be using the centerstand or airbox. Having been so long ago that I took the bike apart...which mounted stuff can I take the grinder to to get that sorted out now? I did a quick search but couldn't find much.

Oh and on a side note...forgot I bought these NOS coils a year or so ago...should I use these? Or the Dyna ones I got along with my Action4 kitted motor?

OK, glad to hear it Collin.  I was concerned you were unhappy with the purchase man.   Really glad that's not the case.

Back to work again...Habermann tank is done being repaired and primered(WHAT A PITA!). Seat is repaired and primered, and the fairing is repaired and primered. Hopefully painting everything this weekend...paint scheme is gonna be a last minute decision though...so we'll see how that comes out. This bike HAS to be done for this spring!!!!

Ahhh the on-going saga of me having too many projects...being out of commission, and being just plain lazy sometimes too. Back to work on this baby.

I have full LED lighting for it, headlight, taillight and turn signals. Brand new wiring harness, just send Hondaman a PM about the new style fuse block...and now just waiting on another rear wheel hub so I can get the rear wheel and rear suspension sorted out. I have an actual chance of getting this done for this spring lol....

I know none of you believe that but we'll see. For now the custom 4-4 exhaust is gonna have to wait. Too many failed attempts and too much time spent hasn't yielded much. I have a nice stock 4-4 I'll use for now...exhaust will have to wait until next year I think. I want to get this thing done and ride it this year!!!

ColinMC - TY for posting pics of your rebuild.  Judging by the other bikes in the background should be a sweet looking ride.

Edit: Wish I would've thought of this sooner, but would this solve the gas cap problem? http://www.cb750cafe.com/parts.php?id=67

If you don't mind me asking, if you don't need them, would you be willing to sell the rear grab bar & turn signals? I am in the process of rebuilding my own CB750, and to get the rear signals to match what's going on the front will need find a grab bar/signals off of a '76 similar to what you have.

Thanks for the gas cap info!

I already got rid of all the non needed stuff...I think I still have a front wheel laying around but that's probably it.

On a side note I bought an 18" lester front wheel for a GL1000 for my front end and an 18" lester rear wheel for my cb750 swingarm...still love the looks of spoked wheels but...well...couldn't pass on the Lesters lol. Hoping to get this bike buttoned up in the next couple weeks so I can finally get the small stuff i'm sure i'm forgetting figured out.

Ok so I got the lester rear wheel in the mail yesterday, sure enough it's an 18"x2.15"...haven't gotten the front GL1000 lester yet in the mail but that should be the same size. Trying to decide on whether to go with same size tires front and rear...or a 100/90/18 front and 110/90/18 rear in something nice and aggressive...like a Pirelli Sport Demon or something...If I get the lester front before the weekend they are both getting painted this weekend, tires ordered asap, tires mounted, then bike back in mockup.

Making slow but steady progress. Motor is all cleaned up again and ready to go on the engine stand, front forks are finished being polished and rebuilt.

The nicer weather is a huge motivator to get this project DONE!!! It's been freaken YEARS and slow amounts of money invested in getting it done.

Now to go finish painting stuff for the CL450...and the XS500...and the RD250 i'm working on as well lol.

Pics coming...sometime? I'm terrible with that lol.

I am considering having someone else do the motor rebuild for me on this one...any recommendations or anyone on this site do that kind of thing? I just want a bone stock rebuild with new gaskets and whatever else needs replacing. I would do it myself but I have a ducati project that you can see in the background of a few pics, and another two stroke project, as well as my car to fix. I'll probably end up doing it myself, but figured it wouldn't hurt looking into other options. Or I suppose I could just clean this sucker up and slap it back in there lol.

If you're looking just a stocker for the engine, why not just clean it up and toss it back in? If it needs a quick rebuild, check with your local Honda dealer. They might be able to do it themselves or have a good recommendation for someone. New Rings, gaskets and seals shouldn't cost too much in labor, I wouldn't think.

The local Honda dealer would not be able to rebuild that engine.
That engine is about 40 years old. The kids now have very little experience except on a laptop computer LOL...lol

If you want it rebuilt correctly have Cycle-Exchange in wisconsin rebuild it.
If you slap it back in that could be a mistake.
The cam chain rubber rollers have had 40 years to age get brittle and now all the little crumbs of rubber will end up in your oil sump and crankshaft galleys.
That has a dry sump oil system. The oil is stored in the oil tank not in the engine.

It probably needs a new cam chain too.
The valves and guides need to be checked.
It takes special valve cutting tools and they are long gone from the Honda dealer.

If you cannot afford Cycle-X then do it yourself but buy your head gaskets and other parts from cycle-X so you get the right stuff.

Then get a machine shop that works on motorcycles to do the head and cylinders if they need anything other than honing.
