NEW ORLEANS -- T3 Motion, Inc., has won the 2007 Law Enforcement INNOVATION Award for Vehicles. The finalists and winners of the INNOVATION Awards were announced at a special evening event at the New Orleans House of Blues after the opening day of the 2007 International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) convention on Sunday, October 14, 2007.

The INNOVATION Awards judging panel called the T3 Series "a great product due to its stable platform. It is useful for administrative or tactical duties -- anywhere the high-profile of the vehicle would be advantageous.

This was one of the most innovative products we judged. With a stable platform, ease-of-use, and maneuverability, the T3 is a must for just about any agency."

Beats walking the beat, but it also brings you closer to the people than you would get with a car. Nice idea.

BobbyR- as former law enforcement i have to ask you if you really think anyone would find this cop more personable than one in a car, w hich we all drive from time to time.  I remember the first time i saw a cop on a segway, it was ludicrous and he even seemed to know it.  besides the lame robocop associations, you have a further reinforcement of U S cops as overweight and lazy- something i dont think is true, but definately doesnt need any more PR.  Cops in cars are good and we need them to be that mobile and quick, but anything short of that should be cops that look like people, not nerdified cyborgs that cant move fast enough to actually be involved in an effective chase.  come on bobby, get real.

Well klark, it does not seem that bad. I actually prefer a cop on his feet as opposed to hiding his gut behind a steering wheel. Would be good for the meter maids too.

Besides the fact that that looks totally ridiculous , you have to wonder how much of an improvement it really is.
The topspeed is 25mph, so you can outrun it easily on a bicycle. It's cheap to run, but I bet not as cheap as a bicycle.

For that kinda money you could buy 3 decent mountainbikes with helmets and gear. So what is the real advantage here?

In a big city it makes sense not to be in a car sometimes, the copes here have even tried rollerblades at one point. Now they have scooters that are slower than anything out there, because they are the only ones riding stock models.

The only thing that impresses me somewhat is a cop on a horse, but I think it's more the horse than the cop that i have fear for (no disrespect to cops meant).

I don't understand how this stand-up trike would be of any benefit to police... If it only moves at 25mph they can't exactly use it on the road, which only leaves the sidewalks, and it looks a bit too wide for that to be practical as well. If they're looking for something for a single officer to patrol on, why wouldn't they just buy some little Suzuki GZ250's? They could pick themselves a few up for less than $3k a unit, use them for every day patrols, and if they ever needed to, they could still keep up in a chase, at least until more units show up.

I can't  see this being good for anything , not even at  Mardi Gras.

well eldar, i dont see his feet, but i do see some handle bars to hide a gut behind.  my point was that, we all sit in cars from time to time so the car is a familiar sight, that scooter is just weird, so no help o n the personable tip.

Well there are two types of Policing. In suburban rural areas where i live you need your cops in cars. In the urban environment you need presence. I work in a part of a small city that was uninhabitable until they took the Cops out of the cars and out on the street. Now they are on bicyles and walking the beat. The area is now coming alive. The term law enforcement denotes action, chasing down bad guys which is only one part of the equation. Prevention is very important. We had a problem years ago in the County Parks. They put us on Vespas which allowed us to be out in the open to see and be seen very regularly. Problems went down and good people returned.

In Chicago, they use Quads, bicycles along the lakefront and Segway's in the downtown areas, and have some mounted cops in the parks.  Their presence is a HUGE deterent to the mopes that populate that city.  The stand-up trike is, I think, too big to get around easily on congested sidewalks.  Like was said before, the meter maid could benefit.

The one main advantage I see is visibility...both for the cop (in crowds seeing over people) and for those looking for him. Believe it or not there used to be a minimum height for cops but I think that was more for intimidation etc....I certainly wouldn't find a cop on a trike all that imposing...
