Hear Sparty's new engine run
« on: October 17, 2007, 06:06:16 PM »
Guys,

I hooked up my recorder and took a spin for you today.  I was in some heavy stop and go traffic for a while and there is a lot of wind noise (it is annoying i know), but you can hear the engine sing.  There are a few points where I get the RPMs up near 8000, but they are about 10 minutes into the file.  At one point I stopped for some Shell V-Power and I shut off the recorder.  After that I get to some more open road after a few stop lights.   You can hear the rear tire spin and chirp from first to second.  Listen to it while you surf the net.  The WAV file is on my website.  http://www.basd.net/staff/aentz/CB750/CB750_page.htm

What do you think?

Turned the bass up on my 5.1 speakers and felt like I was riding the computer desk and chair ;D  A shame that the high rpm's are awash with wind noise, but it is not unlike actual riding when the wind starts tugging at your helmet ;)

I had the recorder strapped to my arm.  I may try it again with the recorder someplace out of the wind.  Where I don't know.

Sounds powerful doesn't it?

Sparty, sounds mean even through all of the wind noise!

If your recorder has a built-in mic, try wrapping a few layers of cloth around it...some open-cell foam would be even better. Anything to block the turbulence. Also, finding a place to put the recorder that's out of turbulent air will help; perhaps down by your, ahem, nether regions.  ;)

Especially so with the bass turned up. The floor is a'rumblin' ;D  The sound quality is actually quite good, better than I would have expected :)

I should put the recorder in the back pocket of my mesh jacket, that may help.

Maybe strap the recorder to your back/butt right behind you on the seat- best place out of the wind, and will pick up the exhaust note the best..

Sparty, that sounds beautiful.

A suggestion, if I may, though. Convert the .WAV to an MP3. It will be much smaller in download size, saving you bandwidth, and allowing us to download it much faster.
If you do not have a ocnverter, CDEX is a free download, which can convert WAVs to MP3's.

Really am enjoying the sound. Hope mine sounds as good when finished.
No.

There is wind noise and there is wind noise, that was wind noise ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sounds good until you change into second, then it gets lost in the wind. :(

As was said, strap it to your back, down near your but. ::) ::) ::)

I played around with a video camera clamped to the frame in various places and ran into the wind problem also. I found if I loosely taped a cotton ball over the mic it helped quite a bit.

Only problem I heard was there was no engine rattling noises?! How can that be a SOHC  ;) ;)?

AWESOME sounding.....

The only problem I see with that bike is finding a place to REALLY let it go all out.
Mabey paying to do a 1/4 mile run at a track would be worth it.

Sounds like it pulls hard around the upper rpm's. how is it driving that beastie under 40 miles an hour?(does that happen?  ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D )
