If you are running a Dyna 2000 on a 836 high HP engine

How do you know where your timing sweet spot is?  I currently have mine set at 35 degrees.  Could it benefit from going lower or higher on the timing? scondon, Ilbikes, and Mike can you help?  Tuning experts your advice is welcomed.

I've only got a month or so more experience than you with the Dyna 2000 so maybe Mike or Gordon will have more input. I did start with 37.5 degrees on #4 setting, bike was very responsive but had lean rattle. I've been jetting down the CR's(110main now), raising the needles, and retarding the ignition timing. Also I've dabbled with the 1-3,5 curves but never stuck with any of them for long.

As far as what I've noticed from changing the ignition timing alone, I get better mpg and the bike doesn't run as hot the further I retard the ignition. I'm currently at 33+degrees( just left of center between 32.5 & 35 marks) and running 91 octane. I have not noticed any real change in power by retarding the ignition.

I'm still not fully satisfied with my all around tune, though it has improved greatly from my initial starting point. When I get the carb mix where I really like it I'll get back to trying some different advance points. Most likely will happen on the dyno as I hope to tune by "seat of pants", then fine tune the AFR on the machine and pull a couple runs at different timing degrees to see what measurable difference there might be.

At the moment, Godspeed still has a hole in the ground where the new dyno is supposed to go. Possibly in by next week ;)
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

My bike is running a bit hot at 35.  I'll try 34 and see what happens.

It will get hot Art, it's a new motor and also don't forget, it is bored out to it's maximum, the cylinder walls are very thin now.
