Shipping/payment of a car...
« on: October 19, 2007, 09:25:08 AM »
Had a question for you guys, been talking with a fellow out west that wishes to buy my car, while the shipping part is not really of question. I am wondering how you guys would deal with the monetary ordeal. The general thinking is that although we are both straightforward people, neither one really wants to put all this money on the line in hopes the other person will come through. i.e. he doesn't want to send the money in hopes I will actually get it to the shipping center, and nor do I want to wait until he receives the car to send the money, in hopes that he will.

Any thoughts on this? Maybe someone has done it before? I need some suggestions...

look around for an online escrow company.  they hold the money until the goods are delivered.  google turned up escrow.com, and it seems they charge a minimum of 125USD for the service.  maybe someone has first hand experience with a good one.
good luck

I agree with going through an escrow company, but only if the transfer of funds to you is contingent upon delivery only, and not buyer approval.  You'd be in a bad position if you shipped the car all that way and then the buyer finds some flaw with it that he doesn't like and won't accept delivery.
