Is this the New CB750???
« on: October 19, 2007, 07:02:47 PM »
I came across this pic and it is supposed to be the new CB750 or maybe a prototype. Some people say it is a modifed restoration. If that be true there is a lot of custom fabrication done. To my untrained eye, it is DOHC. The fork gaters bring you back to the early days. Seat is more like the original bike. The lower forks tubes are different. The dual discs speak to a more modern design. I see what looks like carbs, but could be fake with injectors inside. I dunno what do you Gurus think? Would you buy a bike that looks like this?

This is true, but I think they need to compete in HP area.

True. I wonder if that's a grafted 750 DOHC top end on a SOHC 750 bottom end.
It's a nice bike that somebody has put a lot of coin and time into.

it's a prototyle they came out with in 2001, however THIS is the cb750 being sold in japan right now, too bad as the 2001 prototype is sweet.   http://www.honda.co.jp/motor-lineup/cb750/

I like the pipes.
I don't like the engine. SOHC is, well, enough. (Snobby, huh?)
Somehow, the forks look undersize. Is it just me?

Honda is planning to recreate the 1969 Honda CB750
New Honda CB750 rumoured

New bikes

16 July 2007 10:26

Honda is planning to recreate one of the greatest motorcycles it ever made, in the form of a new Honda CB750.

Having seen the success of other retro bikes like Triumph’s Bonneville, insiders say Honda has decided to make a modern recreation of the original 1969 Honda CB750, virtually identical in every way to the original.

According to sources in Japan, Honda has developed a new air-cooled engine to give the motorcycle the right retro looks and yet to pass the latest emissions laws. It’s likely Honda will show the motorcycle as a prototype at this October’s Tokyo Motor Show.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Tokyo Motor opens on October 26, so we will know soon enough whether these rumors prove true.  It would have been more appropriate for Honda to do this last year, 2006, the 100th anniversary of Soichiro Honda's birth, but if they do indeed produce a true-to-form replica, I'm willing to forgive them the oversight.

Hmmm.. In one week we should know for sure if this bike will hit the showrooms...

(If it does, I might have to get a new bike to ride along with the new Bonneville my wife plans on buying!)

The DOHC just doesn't look right to me.  Plus, the tank sits a bit too high.... But who am I to judge.  Oh yeah, I am a simple SOHC fan.

Looks like another bike that you have to pull the engine to work on the top end......   :D
I think the front discs can be milled out to make them more like the originals, but I love the retro look except for the gators (I'm an "F" fan).

I like it. It really does look like a 1970's prototype for the CB750/900F, so as long as it's not ridiculously expensive, it should be a popular choice for folks who want a modern bike but don't want to ride around with their asses up in the air and their foreheads resting on their gauges. I likey!  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I don't see a kickstart.

I see 2 cams and only one bike. However since pretty much every bike from the 80's onward has two cams, there must be SOME reason they do it. Any one care to sum up the advantages of 2 cams over one for me? Being able to have more valves? More reliable? Sounding more sophisticated?

There are heaps of advantages mate, I'm no expert, so I'll only list a few that I can think of: Direct cam to valve (via shim and bucket) relationship, (thus removing the requirement for heavy, noisy rockers) seperate cams allow for uncompromised valve timing, combustion chamber shape, valve layout, (Yamaha have used up to 7 valves per cylinder in some of their race bikes) port shape and angle, etc etc.

While I love my SOHC CB750's, I can see the value in this leap in technology, that has been around at least as long as our bikes. Cheers, Terry. ;D

The tank/seat/sidecases remind me more of a CB450. But it looks a lot better than all the plastic wrapped bikes of today.

The bike may be in the October 26, 2007 show in Tokyo, but I don't think that the bike will be for sale until 2009.  Why?  Because I just got off the phone with several Honda shops who are just now getting in the 2008 bikes.  So, this bike is not scheduled to be in the 2008 line-up...  However, if Honda releases the bike in 2009, it will be the 30th anniversary of the 69 750....  great marketing strategy to release the CB750 on an anniversary date.  Also, it would be a great marketing scheme if it were a limited edition, only to be sold in its anniversary year.

I'm gonna start saving my pennies.  I refuse to finance....  I think I want this bike!  I can't wait for the pics to start leaking out from the Tokyo show.

This is the CB750 that was presented in the 2003 Tokyo show:

can be found at http://pub.tokyo-motorshow.com/sr_mc_honda_d044e.html

It also looks like they presented a CB400SS...  guess when they tried to bring retro back in 2003, they didn't think it was wise to market it.

This is the 2007 400SS (available to Japan only)
