750F engine numbers
« on: October 20, 2007, 08:21:51 PM »
I was checking out an old CB750 abandoned in the weeds. The owner said it was a combination of 2 bikes. It had the Comstars and rear discs but the rear fender was chrome not the usual 750F box.He also said it had an F2 motor.Engine was mostly black and the engine serial was CB750E 260....
Now I am confused, reading the posts, people either say the serial must have an F ,
E.G. CB750EF or its not an F model or they have an F model but their engine has no F in the serial and think they have a K model motor substituted by a P.O.
What is the story? Do all the North American F models have an F in the motor serial number or not...This motor certainly looked like an F model
Thanks

My newly-aquired 1975 CB750F doesn't have an "F" in the engine serial number.  It definately has it's original engine.

Hope this helps,
John

My original 75 750F has a serial number of CB750F-1001606 for the bike which is posted on the steering head. The engine is CB750E-2501954. Your CB750E-260.... engine would definitely indicate a 77 F2 engine. The chrome rear fender is K and the Comstars are probably F2. Sounds like a combination of at least 2 bikes. What's the serial number of the bike?

My question is why is this bike STILL ABANDONED?? It must be saved. Offer him $250 and take it home. Tell him if it was only ONE bike it would obviously be worth maybe $500 at the most.  ;)

As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

the F is only on the U.S. configured bikes,as to why this bike is still in the weeds?
I have my K2 under restoration and sniffed the weed bike out as a possible parts source, then found it is a hybrid K and F...tho' mostly F....do I want it to follow me home?
Well it would be sitting in my garage for awhile...but,well,it would make another nice project and maybe some of the K parts would fit my 72K.....hmmmm :)
