rusty rims (inside)
« on: November 26, 2005, 08:35:10 AM »
Hey all,
I just pulled off 2 spare rims and tires. The front wasn't to bad, I just wire wheeled it and it cleaned up. The back is too far gone. I dont think there is anything I can do to save it. The only thing good is the spokes. Maybe I'll just take them out and save them. The hub is so rusty I dont think i can save it either. Going to look at the 77 750F in a couple hours. wish me luck.

if you can submerge the item in a bucket/trough, you might try this product:

www.evapo-rust.com

i tried it today and was pretty impressed. i dropped a few rusty chrome bicycle pedals into the stuff for a few hours and they came out pretty good. the pics are here:

http://groups.msn.com/mybikes/evaporust.msnw?Page=1

the item has to be submerged in the stuff for a few hours to work....the whole item at once, or a bit at a time.

a litre/quart was about $10.00. you can reuse it over and over again til it wears out.

the surface looks kinda raw, so an exposed surface should probably be sprayed with some kind of clearcoat to protect it from new rust, maybe like a duplicolor wheel clearcoat:

thanks guy's,
The rim is too far gone. The yard I go to for my 4x4 parts has a 77 550F parts only. So new tire on ther rear and decent one on the front. I got them dirt cheap. and the front rotor looks like new.
