Hello from Savannah GA
« on: October 23, 2007, 12:26:39 PM »
Hello everyone. I'm new to the site. Im just about finished with my 75 cb550 so I thought Id share it with you. I'm still undecided on the seat, I have formed one out of foam and just need it wrapped but I'm making sure it is exactly what I want before I drop the cash to do it. I built the rear sets out of aluminum and bike pegs. The brake and the shifter side are identical which took a little thinking to do. I have polished allot of stuff and rewired it completely. I made white gauge face overlays with the help of my local vinyl shop, I drilled the front rotor and rear hub and polished it as well. LED blinkers all around and an updated head light. I'm still going to repaint the tank but the same paint scheme. I used an old wedding card as a stencil which turned out pretty cool. I stripped the entire bike down to bare metal. I'm pretty sure I have made 100+ trips to home depot and the auto parts store spending 10-15 bucks per visit, but I'm tickled with what I have so far. Ive done lots and lots more but I could go on all day. I have a video and complete picture set on my myspace if you are interested. Myspace.com/markrodocker  guys

Welcome. Looking good! Can't wait to see the final product. How was the tank finished, rather, is that hand painted or a decal?

The tank is spay painted using a wedding card as a stencil. I plan on redoing it the same way but it has gotten scratched and chipped during the build. I knew it would but at times I got tired of working on it and it took little things like painting the tank to get me going again.

Cool.  I dig the black/gold combo.  Can't wait to see it all done.

I may be spending a week at Tybee next summer(no bike though).  We fell in love with that area when our daughter was attending Scad.

Oh, I almost forgot.  Welcome.

Welcome.  Very cool, love the black carbs.  Keep posting more pictures as you go, I'm interested in what you use for a seat.  Those rearsets are great, only a wee bit in front of the rear pegs :)

I only painted the 2 outside carbs being as the inside carbs aren't seen. Im fairly happy with the rearsets only because I cut them out myself with a jig saw. My arms felt like rubber after cutting them out and they are not very straight. I will be getting a machine shop to cut out another set after I draw them on the aluminum. I designed them myself so Im pretty happy with them.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Oh man.  I so would bring it if I had the seat completed. If you have a stock cb550 seat laying around Ill throw it on there for the day. I had no clue about the show, Im trying to stay busy here at my shop (Sandfly Auto Security) Maybe Ill make it up there though to check some stuff out.

finally got the battery mounted and all wiring mounted. Still going to clean it up a bit and make a cover so it looks really clean when the seat is opened. May make a fiber glass cover that fits the contours of the components. All I need to complete this is a tail light and the seat covered. Hopefully soon. Oh yeah, and touch up all the paint Ive scratched doing and re doing everything. Oh and finish removing the metal off of the frame from where I cut tho old tabs off that held the side covers, and install the remote start security system, oh and....................................
