Benly S110 - Whos knows ANYTHING about them?
« on: October 24, 2007, 04:32:00 AM »
Hey all

First off, great site!

Ive got an S110 Benly and am hoping someone can give some info in it...any info at all!
It seems to be based on the S90 but has a 110cc engine (pushrod)

Does anyone have details on the bike or its motor? (S110E)

Heres a few pics of the bike;

As it was..

..after Stripping..

..and in the midst of respray. (bad pic but you get the idea)
Its going to be a cafe racer type setup, bare frame, all paintwork is matt black, polished chrome, slimline seat, flat bars etc etc.

Cheers
Ash

Yeah nothing irreversible will be done, don't worry about that  ;)

I personally think it is pretty ugly stock, I don't see why they tacked such hideous covers over what is a great looking frame.
Plus I already have a true resto on the go with my Stinger, one black money hole is enough for me;

Anyway I think both will look pretty cool when finished, ill keep you posted.

Ash. I saw one at Mid Ohio vintage days! Talked to the owner, supposedly was brought back from the Phillipines by a returning service man. Said it was titled as a 1969. Was interested because I have a Benly S90.  Frame, chain guard, and most of most of the hard parts look like a 90. Compare with my S90:

Just got a reply from Honda after asking for a spec sheet.

Basics are;

Type - 4 stroke OHV, 75 degree slant.
Bore and stroke - 52mmx49.5mm
Displacement - 105cc (S110 huh..)
Max HP - 8 BHP
Compression - 8.5:1
Dry weight - 89kg

Does anyone have these specs for the S90? (interested how they compare)

No im not 100% sure which countries it went to.
I know for sure Australia and Indonesia got it, I assume other Asian countries.
Philippines also as mentioned above.

Heres a blue one on eBay (too far away from me and too expensive unfortunately)

Yes, that's the rough one I was on about.

I have quite a good list of model numbers with specs, but that ones not in it, that's why I said it might be a rare one.

Thanks, Ash! That chain guard was a beat-up mess. Spend several hours pounding out the dents and scrapes with a hammer and dolly. Found a formula for " Honda Silver" on the web (can't remember where) and had a pint mixed by the local paint shop in DuPont Chroma One enamel, then used a low gloss clear. Matches the NOS fenders perfectly. Let me know if you would like the formula and I will post it.

Hey all

Just a couple more pics for you of progress on my Benly.

Im happy with how its going so far, ive hidden all the wiring and put rectifier and coils etc inside the frame.

The wheels are not correct, ive just put them on while I rebuild the proper ones.
Still got tank, guards and seat to do too.
Bars will be changed too, I want something lower.
Ill probably change the indicators at some point.

One problem im having is the wiring though, just wondering if someone can help?
I think the wiring will be the same as the S90.
Unfortunately I cant find the pics I took before I pulled it apart...;p(

Pic 1 shows the excess plugs.
Red, white, green and a black one with a white stripe (purple arrow)
The blue one with the question mark seems to loop back to a pink wire, I didnt touch this so I assume its right?

Pic 2 shows unknown black and light green wires, these are up near the ignition switch as you can see.

Also, I dont know where the rectifier plugs in (red and white wires) and I cant see any connectors for the battery??

Help would be much appreciated!

Thanks
Ash

Ash: The light green and black wires are for the horn. The blue to pink is correct. For some reason, got a 404 error when i tried to pull up your pictures. My S90 has a separate green wire for the neg terminal that branches into 2 wires, 1 end goes to the rectifier and the other to the headlight ground inside the headlight shell. Do you have the plastic battery holder? The red wire plugs into the plastic box (at the fuse) and the pos terminal comes out of the box. Have to drop the motor to get to the rectifier.

The horn!!
I forgot all about it, thanks  8)

No I don't have the battery box - it was missing when I got the bike.
I thought thats where some of the confusion was coming from.

OK so red and green seem to be explained.
With the rectifier, one end goes to the green - which end, red or white? (is it polarised?)
What about its other lead?

And lastly how about the white lead and the short black and white striped one in pic 1.
The white one comes from the plastic multi-pin plug from the engine.

Thanks again
Ash

Ash- The Yahoo S90 group forum has a very good s90 wiring diagram under "links". Just type "Honda S90" under Yahoo search.
