I'm going over to the "Green Side"...
« on: October 25, 2007, 03:50:54 AM »
I couldn't really afford this bike but I had to have it.

Don't want to be lying back dribbling in a Lazy-Boy in the old-folks home wondering what it would have been like to put a Z1 through the gears, red lining it all the way.

This bike has 12,500 miles on the clock and the paint is original. A survivor bike.

A repro seat, mirrors, new spokes and a brake rebuild and fork oil, tune up and a good detailing etc, etc,  and it will be good to go.
I will have to drop the engine over the winter and strip the not so good engine re-paint off and re-do it.  It's a pretty easy resto.

I'm keeping my K0 because it's special to me and has been the source of so much fun over the past few years. Someone said to me the other day that they don't have any passion left for anything. I thought that was a bit sad in a way.

I'm still pretty excited about the vintage Japanese scene here in Christchurch N.Z.

I've met a lot of knowledgeable and interesting people who share my interests, so it's all good.

TC....

That seat is jus' there to keep you from slippin off the bike!
Cups and supports like a good bra! The 18 hour support seat. :D
Nice bike! I know why you got it. There is one near here that has not moved in 11 years, still have not gone to talk to the owner. Do I want to get involved in a KAWI??? I just dont know.
Sorry about the guy with no passion. Every day I have more to be passionate about. Ill give him a cup of mine. :)

I am super jealous----you have just purchased the "holy grail" in my opinion. That's the 1973 Z1 - first edition and without question the most valuable of the series. Don't chop that bike up, please. Get the right seat and other items and keep it as original. Seriously - that's worth $10~14,000 as it sits and I might give even more. That's a beauty and will return an investment if you keep it 10~20 years of 100% in my opinion. I'd ride it on pretty days and enjoy the heck out of. It's too nice to restore as-is and it's worth more in it's orginal state than would be fully restored (to some anyway).

Absolutely fantastic catch. Oh, and get those square mirrors off of there!! Kawasaki still sells the OEM rounds in black for the Z1, Z1A, znd Z1B.

Oh, I'll trade you a fully restored 1974 H2B for it tomorrow... :)

Hi Gordon, Thanks for your comments. A quick search of eBay will tell you more about the bike.

I won't be restoring it,  just renovating and freshening it up. The original paint is a huge bonus, I won't be
doing anything apart from getting it roadworthy and keeping it as original as I can.

Can anyone tell me WTF the PO has done with the rear shocks, the angle they trail back down to the swing arm is all wrong????

Is that a common mod in the USA and if so, how reversable is it?   i.e. are the mounting brackets ground off??

Why would you do that to a bike??

Hey - save that shipping and I'll park it over here for you. I've got just the spot.....

Right there ---yep she'd be safe and sound plus have the climate control so she won't rust. You can come see her whenever wanted.  :)
