Exhaust for CB750A(Hondamatic)
« on: October 24, 2007, 01:54:35 PM »
Hello.
I am new to this forum and have just aquired a 1978 CB750A. I need a new original set of exhaustpipes. There must be someone out there who know where a set is laying around. It cannot be bought from the major suppliers anymore.
The bike also had a Vetter fairing which I have removed. Now I need all the bits and pices for the headlight, brackets, blinkers, bolts etc

Regards oilman,Norway.

Not sure about the '78s, but the earlier ones shared the exhaust with the 750F Supersport F0 and F1.  It has the "angled" headers that sweep to the left side of the engine, and the silencer that looks like a cross between an expansion chamber and one of the big Harley pipes.

Not sure if they changed it when they changed the SS exhaust to the later F2/F3 style, but that should put you on the trail.

I for one like the earlier (ungainly) SS exhaust, but I'm weird.

Got an answer from Ed at WesternHillsHonda:
"Hello. I do NOT have these items in stock. Thanks Ed. "

Back to square one.

Anybody who have (nice) exhausts for a 1978 CB750A (Hondamatic) ?
I think they are unike for this bike.

Patience and ebay. I have 5 Hondamatics, finding a good stock exhaust, affordably, is a task in itself. I went aftermarket for mine. You can find the headlight bucket, fork ears and turn signals on ebay as well. There are a few differences between the k series and the a series but thy will work. Caution: A 76' Hondamatic has a different frame and wire harness (The plug in for the gauges is different) Exhaust was a 4 into 1 versus the 4-2 on the later bikes. Early 77's have spoke wheels vs. comstars however everything else is interchangeable. If you do an original resto, Be sure its right before you buy it...

PM me if you have trouble, I do have a few spare parts just not the headlight hardware

Depends on the style, 4-1 or 4-4, etc as far as clearance issues. If the engine end of the pipes is the same, it should bolt on. The earlier years clamped on, later years just bolted on like the A series.

My local Honda shop has just recently offered to use their parts locator if I need something. Ask your guys to do that. Take the parts numbers with you to make it easy for them.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
