Always wear one.  Most of the time a shorty, but also have a open face.  My cousin was killed in a motorcycle accident.  It was back in the mid 60's before MI had a helmet law.  I don't remember if a helmet would have saved him or not.  I remember learning to ride from a friend in 1966 and no helmets were required.
