Speedo light out
« on: June 05, 2011, 02:02:24 AM »
I wanted to know what was involved in changing out the bulbs for the speedometer gauge. Is it as simple as removing the two bolts on the back and unthreading the cable? Also, if I unthread the speedo cable from the gauge am I going to mess up the accuracy of the MPH?

1. Yes. It's just that easy.   2. No. You won't mess up anything.

Except the rubber holder/plugs that fit the gauges harden with age, and can crack/rip tear while pulling/prying them out to access the bulbs.
It was easy when new.

If you lose the plug seal, you can expect the dials to fog up regularly.

I just did this yesterday.
Yes, be careful removing the boots.  To reinstall rub a tiny bit of grease on the boots and they'll slip right back in.

I should add that if you have some silicone spray, you can spray some at the rubber the housing join to aid removal.

Got it. Thanks. I've noticed that my tach fogs up a little so its likely the PO broke the seal. I'll check it out.
