Head gasket started leaking.....at least its winter
« on: November 10, 2007, 04:28:13 AM »
Hey guys, just noticed that my head gasket started leaking the other day, so I'm going to pop that little four outta the frame and fix it here pretty quick.  Now for the question.  What would ya'll recommend that I do to the top end while I have it that far apart.  BTW, this engine doesn't quite have 18,000 miles on it and doesn't burn a drop of oil, its' head gasket is just seeping enough to get oil on the carbs and keep the fins wet.

If you're taking the head off, you'll want to check for warpage "to see how flat the gasket surface is". You don't want to install a new gasket with a warped head. replace all the little O-rings when you do the gasket and while the head's out, I'd have it serviced; replace the valve seals and reseat the valves.
