a question of collectibility
« on: October 28, 2007, 09:04:30 PM »
I suppose this is a matter of opinion, but what would you say is the more collectible of these two bikes, a '73 CB500K or a 1970 CB450 DOHC?

It's normally the first year of production of each model that is the most attractive to collectors, so the original CB450 "Black Bomber" or the very first model CB500F.

I'd lean towards the 450 also, but only because I have fond memories of being chased by the cops on one in 1975, (as a passenger) and getting away from them! Ah, memories of my misspent youth are flooding back........... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

500 is easier to get parts for and less fragile
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

for some strange reason the cb450s usually trade for a little higher price than most cb500/550s. Personally I think the 450 is a little more fun to ride which is why I would lean toward that.
