!977 750k sidestand
« on: July 20, 2005, 07:54:00 PM »
I'm in the process of restoring a K7and I'm having a problem with the sidestand. It seems to be too short. When I set it on the sidestand it leans at a very steep angle, almost to the point of falling over. I got two other sidestands with the bike when I got it (it had been heavily modified.) All three seem about the same length and angle. The mounting point seems OK, but could it be bent? If so, how do I get it repaired so it lasts. ???  A 10 lb sledge doesn't seem like a very good long term fix!!

yay another K7 owner.  we are growing and i think we should start a mini club in this club.

i would bend it back for now, but during the offseason, cut it and weld it again with some gussets.  mines leanin a bit too much as well.  i just use the centerstand most of the time anyway.

I'm guessing this was a "cb750 problem" but something tells me its more of a "1977 CB750 problem."  :P

Not a real common problem I would guess tho. I had a 75 in '78 that stood pretty well on the side stand, and that's pretty much all I used back then. Still don't like the idea of a judicious use of a large hammer. Just not my style.Welding of a short extension may work tho. ;D. I like the dea about a club tho. Where are you located? I'm in Chicago's large suburb to the North.

My side stand bolt worked it's way out and bent.  The bike had a good lean on it until I put it back right.

Bowhunter I'm in the South Suburban area of Chicago and work in the Loop.

doh! south new jersey.  but if i ever head out that way (possible) i will let you know.  ;)

but, yea try an extension.  I had and Yamaha XJ550 that the previous owner welded a 1" block of steel on the end of the stand.  it worked the life of the bike.  You could even just weld some bar stock to extend or ANYTHING to make longer i guess.
