I already smell like fries most days...and I do not have a car with 800BHP!

That's amazing...although Detroit doesn't need a push they need a smack! I wonder if they are getting kickbacks from oil companys....hmmmm ::)  ::)  ::)

It's not quite as simple as it looks.

Friend of mine is a sound tech for Melisa Ethridge, she insisted all of the tour busses run on bio-diesel.

Bus drivers balked at first, and for good reason. There was nothing but problem with the engines initialy. Gaskets, seals, fuel lines, etc.. were falling apart.

After some mechanical fixes and a few oil changes, they ran fine. The drivers ended up really liking the change.

Not saying it isn't a good option eventually, just saying it's not a matter of a few quick turns of the wrench.

Someone in my area runs a early Bronco off of a 4 cylinder bio-diesel, rock crawler guy, says it kicks ass.

I'm not an expert by any means in bio-diesel, but I know that any diesel will run off of bio-diesel with no modifications whatsoever.  If you want to run straight corn oil, you need to make some modifications though.

I would love to buy a diesel car and run it off of bio-diesel, but diesels are very, very uncommon in these parts outside of work trucks.

I saw an episode of "Trucks" a while back where they showed a kit you could buy (there's actually several available) to filter and refine used cooking oil to run in your diesel. After the price of the kit, etc., they said you'd be paying about 70 cents per gallon.

Bio diesel is really starting to take off. The down side is that it's already driving up the price of corn and corn products. The company my wife works for is building a facility north of here just for processing bio diesel.

I know a guy who bought an old Mercedes diesel specifically to run bio in it.  We hate to be in traffic behind him because of the smell of fries.  Makes me hungry!

But you can't take just any diesel vehicle and run bio in it.  There are some o-rings in fuel systems not alcohol safe.  Alot of commercially available bio has alcohol in it(maybe all bio has it, I'm not sure).  When they started adding alcohol to gas to make gasohol, some BMW bikes had problems with o-rings disolving.  A Ford dealer told a freind of mine his 1999 P/U couldn't run it, but 2000 and newer could.
Go metric, every inch of the way!
