To make a 1980 cb650 a converted fuel injection motor without going broke...answers ideas anything.

If your goal is to make it run right, just fix the carbs.  They work fine when they work properly.  Also, the few hours you'll spend fixing the carbs will certainly return a much greater benefit than the hundreds of hours you'll spend researching and assembling parts, tuning, trial and error, etc. for FI.

If you still need to go with FI for whatever reason, then look at MegaSquirt.

As people have shown in the past, it is always possible to make mods to anything. It just depends on your skill and monetary stocks. You would probably have to do more of a throttle body injection where the fuel is squirted directly into the air stream to mix. This would then NOT require any major head work. I think the main issue is the control of the fuel metering.

If you have CV carbs you need to locate a set of VB44-B or -C carbs with screw in idle jets. All your carb problems will go away. They were used on the 82 CB650's.
