good thing it was free
« on: October 31, 2007, 10:53:23 PM »
dad found an old ducati trail bike for one of his co-workers at the ducati/beemer shop he works at so he offered up this cb350f in return.  quite unlike dad... he offered it to me w/out even batting an eye.
i can't wait for this one to come home... it needs a few sohc4 friends to hang with and should feel right at home in its new stable.
that makes two 350Fs and a spare motor and a 400F... i never thought the freebie would come my way and i never thought having such a ratty non-running bike would be so exciting  :D

... i'll be sitting and making engine noises in no time  ;)... speaking of sitting, not often the seat is the best part on the bike, huh?

so much rust on this sucker you might think it came stock.  i guess i won't feel bad for letting the project sit if need be, haha.

rust? what rust? here in NY that would be a "nice original bike in storage for a few years and running when parked" (FYI NY'ers are mostly scumbags).

good score. Looks clean enough that a industrial tub of elbow grease and a few thousand pads of 000 steel wool wouldn't cure.

personally I am not a fan of these bikes so if you set it on fire too that would amuse me equally as well but it looks like all the hard to find parts are there.

i had to call him because i couldn't remember... i guess it was the road version of the trail bike officially called a
1973 350 road
the trail version is a, you guessed it... 1973 350 trail

this isn't the same bike dad found but, it is the same model... evidently, they are selling upwards of 5 grand in some areas and the guy ended up getting it for 800, cleaned it up and it fired on the 4th kick!  dad is really kicking himself over that one.

well, as you may know... i'm collecting parts for the 400f race project.  i gave the project to our family as a family project when my dad remarried recently.  i thought it was appropriate since she has a few bikes too.
anyway, we've really been talking about getting a bike or two together for some vintage racing... obviously, the 400f will be better fit for the job w/ the extra 50cc and top gear but, hey, who knows.

it might also just be a pile of spare parts when needed.   ;)

i do like the fact that it is basically complete if i did want to restore.  time will tell...

I was thinking the same thing... The bike doesn't look that ratty by my "barn-yard" standards...

I wish a Ducati would fall in my lap. Whats the difference between the street and trail? Loose the knobby tires and lower the front mud guard??

well Mr GTO, you might be, or the people that live near you, but I find this offensive, and I was born and raised in NY.
I'd also like to know what that has to do with this guy's new bike.

+1 more for "not ratty."  I'd jump on that and ride the hell out of it immediately...
