$hit fire! I'm the crazy that pd $80 for a set of '77 CB550F chamber boots (he through in the chamber for free).

They were in 'good' condition, not excellent.

That was a couple of months ago and have not seen a set since.

I've been looking because I know this is going to give me a good dose of buyers remorse.

BTW, somebody mentioned the possiblity of tearing one of the boots while installing... It was a ROYAL PAIN getting those boogers in without tearing them!

Hopefully mine go on smooth & I don't tear them up.  I just had to spring for the new ones for about $45 on DSS.  I couldn't take my chances with someone else's 30 year old rubber.  Sorry you're having buyer's remorse, scadaman

The new ones are nice and pliable...No way would I tear those upon install....They're not solid enough to catch, they just give.

I checked DSS yesterday, they didn't have the ones for a '77 550F in thier .zip file. Do you have to call?
I'm REALLY going to feel bad if they do.
At least my beer and liquor will go down easier if they do! (Gotta have some kind of relief.)

As for the insulators...

My concern is mainly the ineffectual OEM clamps on the hard insulators. I'm using T bolt band-clamps without any indication of vac leaks.

I emailed them and they responded back promptly.  The carb insulators were not on their parts list.  They probably have them.

Where can one get those clamps?

Local fluid/hydraulics/fire sprinkler shop carries wide assortment. Cost was $16 for 8 clamps.

Got the price back $57 (at today's rate) plus $5 fee plus 2.5% plus shipping...

Buiyer's remorse? Yeah, I got it, but I've been preparing myself over the past few days.

Sorry Phil,

So you're gonna buy new rubber cheaper than what you bought someone else's 30 year old rubber for....  Nice.

I think that the US doesn't pay the 2.5%

8 for $20?

You can get the similar clamps for $1 a piece here:

http://www.competizone.com/catalog/shopcart/928M/POR_928M_MISCLL_pg7.htm

You need the 32-50MM to be the same size as the ones you bought from Carpy... but these are $1 a piece

Hope,
Those hose clamps will also extrude soft rubber through the screw threads in the bands.  Pretty harsh treatment for brand new rubber bits.

I agree, the smooth ones will be more gentle on the rubber. These are not Autozone heater hoses we are talking here.

You picked up the intake manifold insulators or the air box boot rubbers?  You must have picked up the manifold insulators.

How are the ones for $1 different from the ones Carpy is selling for 8 for $20?  I was just comparing the clamps that USN20 said the got  8 for $20 from Carpy to some $1 clamps I found.  I am not saying that these are the clamps to use.  Please tell me what the difference is in the ones that Carpy sells and the ones that I found.

A pic of Carpy's (8 for $20):

A pic of pelicanparts.com (1 for $1)

Are you folks telling me that Carpy is selling "hose clamps [that] will extrude soft rubber through the screw threads in the bands.  (Pretty harsh treatment for brand new rubber bits)" and that Carpy is selling "Autozone heater hoses"?

His clamps look identical to the ones I found for $1.
