I'm speechless about the price of those pipes. Some time ago I bought a Sanglas brochure from a guy and asked him wethet he had more that wanted to sell. He told me he didn't want to sell them directly, but to put them for auction and it would take about six months for that. It turned out he had something like 10 brochures in mint condition and was planning to "let them loose" on eBay every six months to start a bidding war out of the scarcity. I doubt that the pipes you bought were the last ones, but even if they werent, I once heard a quote by Sony president in the way that "you can always recover your money, but you cannot always recover lost chances".

My K1 pipes are HM300 stamped. Baffles are thinner than those, and those seem to have some kind of packing inside. Mine have no packing at all. Don't know whether they were this way from the start or the PO removed it to make them louder. What I have noticed is some run of grey paint from the drain hole almost to the muffler opening, not visible when installed, and I wonder what is that for. I'm pretty sure they came that way from the factory. I have just cleaned them now that they are out for the chain change. WD40 and fine steel wool makes wonders. Have a look at the pictures.

Furthermore, my bike is a K1 (feb 71) and it has the two hole rear hub. I never imagined it made it any special.

Interesting little differences. My K0 has unmarked pipes, but the defusers look like Raul's and between the lips (?) they are wrapped with glass.

You mean glass cloth? I was surprised they didn't have any the first time I removed them, but what did I know about 36-year-old exhaust design?

Raul, the glass cloth goes away the more you drive.
It's going away more and more on my new hm300 defusers, too.

BTW, my K1 (Febr. 71, too) has the four holes hub.

Yes, I should have been more explicit.

This seems like another Honda mystery. My bike was the "general export" model, so who knows how the production line at the factory was set up. Maybe there were different assembly lines with different amount of parts in the warehouses....

Oil cap is just the tip of the iceberg- 99% of the parts on the prototype don't interchange w/ production CB750's; everything is either one-off or scrounged from old CB450's. Its a total  mind-blower.

Ah I see the fender mount and looks like no tool tray..

Does your sidecovers have the other emblems that showed in the ad where the bike had a thinner master cylinder with  a steel line coming out of it??

What is the serial # does not have to be exact?

Heard # 19 was in the US somewhere..

What about the HUGE sidecovers? Not for the not-too-tall kind like me.....

Seeing those 2-grand-worth pipes hanging make me shudder. It they were mine they would be wrapped in about a mile of bubble wrap until installation time.

They're hanging over my bed, I see them when I go to sleep, and 1st thing when I wake-up. Wifey keeps hitting her head on them, hope she doesn't dent them. At least they're new; when she did that w/ the last set, soot would fall all over the pillows, yuk.

You must be kidding. My wife is very understanding, but what you say is just beyond pale.....  ;D

So what would a good runnable set of un-numbered pipes go for?..with no major damage.

When I got my 69, the guy said the pipes were around somewhere.. There was piles of stuff in the shed and he said he would look later. I checked back once or twice. that was around 99.. He may have sold the place by now but I should try to check. Said he would give them to me..

So I (very luckily found that other set).

I looked at the bike in the Quonset hut, covered in dust from 20 yrs of sitting , made a deal with him and was to come back in a couple weeks to pay and pick it up.When I went  to pick up that bike, I paused and looked at it when we got it in the daylight, wiped off an insrument to see an unfaded face below and checked that it was a sandcast and he about pushed it out of my hands, said thats not getting it loaded!! I think he thought I would change my mind..lol..

New meter boards arrived from Yamiya, along w/ new black tank badges, so I built the gauges today. The early plastic gauges are ez to take apart, just peel away the plastic lip w/ a small screwdriver. Cleaning and polishing the inside of the bezel is now possible, along w/ replacing the meter board and its faded redline. Pointer lifts off using a needlenose (carefully), and a couple dabs of glue hold the body to the works.
Hows that for a pretty face?

Note the difference between a sandcast gauge gearbox and a diecast gauge gearbox.

Those black tank badges look SO FRESH!

Yeah, but they'll MAKE it.  They're one of those details that few people do, but when it's done, it makes the whole bike POP!

If that is your bike in your avatar, (awful small and hard to see), I presume it looks gorgeous.  Why not put the cherry on top with some perfect gauge faces to match the paint and chrome?

Oh and Andy, the new bike looks AWESOME!!!  I'm already jealous!!! LOL!!!

Is this one gonna be a museum-piece?  With those pipes and all the NEW parts, I'm thinking it might be?  It looks almost too good to ride.

I'm enjoying the ever-loving hell out of the Gold one.  Perfect "rider".

That candy gold "rider" wouldn't look too bad in a museum, either! Nice to have your cake and eat it, right?
