Main page SOHC4.net - Navigation Box on the left - Restoration Guide - It's something relatively new and only has Speedos in it currently.

Exhaust Pipes Installed

These very special unstamped no-number pipes were installed last night, along w/ the rare "fat" original exhaust clamps and nos passeger pegs. Pipe fitting was tight; took a bit of filing at the connector tubes (typical of new pipes) and in the frame bracket holes (powder coating made them too tight) but they're finally on and are absolutely flawless, and amazingly NEW. Definately the cat's meow. Almost a shame to get carbon in them!

Did you notice the difference in the welding on the rear footrest brackets.. way different than later ones..

The fins on the early pipe clamps are thicker, fatter, real noticeable when held beside a later clamp, I have a pics somewhere (will post if I find them)

How late were those clamps used in production? I've got a 71 that I swear has those fat clamps on it.

The backside of the #2 and #3 "fat" early type clamps are noticeably bevelled so they don't foul the cylinder head fins, they're so thick. Another difference is each clamp is particular to each cylinder, not simply 2 lefts and 2 right,s as the later type are. They also weigh a few ounces more.

Well, since I'm deploying and gonna be making fat cash, I figured I could splurge a little and get the K0 of my dreams. It actually was kind of an accident, as I didn't start out wanting a sandcast or a Candy Gold one, but the longer I have the Gold, the more I like it. It's now my favorite SOHC color.

Wasn't cheap, but it's only money, I'm gonna make more. Ya only live once and all that.

Here are some pics on the day I got it. Those HM300s sound WICKED, especially when the engine comes on the cam from 6K to redline. They positively WAIL!

It's got all the proper early sandcast parts, down to the real esoteric stuff that no one except sandcast fanatics really notices like the stator cover, the exhaust clamps, LH horn mount, etc. Yeah, I know Candy Gold wasn't a "Sandcast" color, but I prefer its "uniqueness" to the over-common red and blue ones. Was at Barber and saw maybe eight K0s, (including the museum sandcast) and every single one was Candy Blue-Green. I hardly EVER see a Gold K0.

On to the pics:

Some folks say I kinda resemble Denzel Washington. Not sure if I see it though.

The actual pic. The smile is subdued. I looked like the Cheshire Cat earlier!

Actually the bike was in Texas, but since this is my last week before I go to the Sandbox for a year, I brought it here to enjoy for a few days before I go.

The daily rider is still the F1, but I CANNOT resist the K0. The sound, the fury...those that have them will understand.

Here's the F1. Got the brake problems sorted and just turned 1130 (original) miles on it. The pic is from around 600 miles. The pipes have been de-blued as well.

Great photos Groovie and thanks for that! I am very jealous!! Gold is one of my favorites (after sunrise orange of course). Very nice KO!! I have HM300s albeit on a K4 but yeah they sound great. Very nice F1 as well - you are one lucky guy!!! Good luck in the deployment and get back home safe.

Dont' know what "deployment" is, but talking about fat money, good luck, and staying away, I guess it's something related to the Army. Good luck then.

Very nice bike, congratulations. Does it also have the white fender rubber grommet for the speedo drive?

And what about the F1? It looks just like out of the showroom floor. Congratulations on it too.

And thanks again for the chainguard. Still waiting for you to tell me how much to send you....
