« on: November 03, 2007, 08:40:09 AM »
Hello! I've got a pair of 76K 1302 "D"-Special Konis. I would rebulid them, but I'dont know how should I dismantle them. ??? One of them has the threaded collar off. What's next? Thanks! ;)

I rebuilt the same model shocks, once you get the plug out of the the body of the shock it's all easy work from then on.

When the main plug is removed the job is easy getting the plug is the hard part, I made a tool for the job that worked well.

I f you need parts for the shocks  I got this break down diagram from Koni it’s a car assembly but they used the same parts on bike shocks and worked well for me..

I'm interested in this info as well. From that picture at least, I have the same model Koni's and want to rebuild them myself if possible.

Where are you guys finding the model number?

I managed to get approx 65ml into each unit but the person I spoke with at Koni recommended 75ml  but some oil came out when I put the piston back into the shock body, the oil I used was ATF.

Cheers

The number is stamped into the body of the main shock unit once you remove the spring you will see it, its behind the white plastic shroud.

Cheers

Thanks a lot!

The Koni's are working great even with not quite the recommended amount of oil in them, filling with oil is almost as hard as getting the plug out…..good luck.  ;)

Cheers

Thanks Dave!

Say, does anyone know an approximate amount for just the parts alone necessary to rebuild these shocks?? Mine are exactly the same.

Koni no longer supports these shocks. IKON will sell a seal but that is all they have for the aluminum shocks.

This is no longer the case, Ikon does not have a seal or other parts to service these KONI 76-series shocks.

Ikon do continue to make 76-series shocks under their own brand, those in fact ARE rebuildable using most of the same service parts as the Ikon 7610 series.

Ikon 7610 are in nearly all respects identical to the Koni 7610 from which they were derived, in nearly all cases we CAN completely service Koni 7610 shocks to a near new working condition, including springs if needed.

Let me say I had Nils re-build an aluminum bodied set of Koni 7610 "D" shocks and they are literally brand new and actually way better looking than they were new. His attention to detail is second to none... Give me a shout and i'll send you pictures... I may have posted them somewhere...

Now I just need to get to building mine....but if you're wondering...send em out to Nils... you won't be disappointed.
