F and K engines interchangable?
« on: December 28, 2007, 08:22:19 AM »
I have a chance to get my old CB back in a way..only its just the engine since the chassis was scrapped months ago. Im just trying to figure out now what to do with this K4 mill..other then the obvious sell it lol. I would like to drop it into another chassis and return it to being a CB. However..i wouldnt mind getting ahold of a later F chassis with the comstar wheels. But im not sure if the K engine just bolts into the chassis though. Otherwise i wouldnt mind building something like Dusthawks bike. Im willing to hear all ideas on this one...

I assume you're talking about a 750.  I don't know why the motors wouldn't interchange.

Outlaw if you need a 750 frame I have an extra one in my garage.  Not exactly sure what year and model but if you want it you can have it.  I will get the info on it when I get off work if you are interested.

All the engine mountings are the same on all sohc 750 but some of the "extras" mountings (electric panel; exhaust; airbox; etc) may or may not be different

Ya just let me know.  It is sitting in my garage taking up space.  The guy that I bought my bike from just gave me the frame when I bought my bike.  The frame does not have a title though.

Outlaw I told you wrong.  This is actually a 650 frame.  Sorry I thought it was a 750 but never looked.  If you still want it you can have it.  Here are the numbers

That may be best. Chances are if the engine will fit inside the 650 frame i may just go that route. Which will allow me to use it as a base to build a bobber project.

a 750 engine will not fit into a 650 frame.

500, 550 and 650 engines ar interchangeable without (many) issues. 750 engines are interchangeable, but bear in mind that the different types do have different gear ratios and that the K7/F2 (and presumably the F3 and K8) front sprockets have another offset than than the other engines (Don't know for sure 'bout the F1 engine). Therefore the front and rear sprocket don't align properly, which causes the chain to very rapidly wear out.... Just mounting the engine is no problem whatsoever.
