First, I wasn’t on my bike, it was the car.
Second, no major damage or injuries.
Third, totally not my fault.
Fourth, it involved a police chase!
My wife and I live in State College PA and we were on our way to the PSU game after a quick stop to get a coffee. I was stopped at an intersection for a RED light when all of a sudden I was hit from behind. It was a decent jolt and it snapped our heads. I looked in the rearview to see a female driver on the cell phone. I stepped out of the car told and motioned for her to pull over into a parking area. When the light turned green I made a right into the parking area and she turned left and fled the scene. My wife was already on the cell phone with 911 and we reported what just happened.
Traffic was very heavy because of the football game so by the time I could head in her general direction, it was a good five minutes. Karma was on our side because about ten minutes later we spotted her going in the opposite direction. Again, I had to cross traffic and try to catch up. By this time my wife was on the phone with the police dispatch and giving them the driver’s general heading. Eventually, I got pretty close to her, but couldn’t read her plate. She must have spotted us in her rearview because she ran two red lights to try and put some distance between us, which worked.
All of a sudden a police car passed us and was on her tail. We followed the police car at some distance and watched as the driver that hit me tried to elude the police car. Eventually two other police cars, three in total, boxed her in and brought the chase to a stop, after she ran up onto a curb to try and get around the road block. Her car got hung up and her rear wheels were off the ground.
Turns out, she was driving with a suspended license, uninsured, had her two year old child in the back seat and not in a car seat. The car was a stolen rental, and there was a warrant for her arrest! Holy Cow!
The police know us well; my wife is a District Judge, so the police and my wife had a good laugh. I wasn’t too happy. It made us late for the football game. What is funny however is that this woman will appear before my wife in the court room.
