About a ½ mile from our house is where civilization ends. Beyond Ranch-to-Market Road 685 there are miles and miles of two-lane country roads. They are flat as a board with good straight aways , and a lot of bends with good visibility around the farms. If I wanted to, I could drive from here to Houston on them and see maybe five other vehicles in that 190-mile stretch. People don’t drive them anymore. There are plenty of good, newer highways nearby.
These roads are where my K0 and I got to know each other today. I really am beginning to believe this thing between us just might work out. In a 75-mile ride I did not exceed 7,000 rpm – what with it being a fresh rebuild and all – but I popped it up there a few times and the power band beginning at about 5500 shows real promise. It is kicking when I hit 7,000 and there is lot left. It runs well, if not completely dialed in. I would have needed a GPS to guide in any help had it been required, but the bike never gave me any reason for concern. It's pretty sweet.
The carbs still need more adjusting. It sounds kind of like microwave popcorn when it is doing its idle imitation. But it is as good as my K5 off the line, has a reasonable midrange and then…whoo. I can’t wait to feel what the rest of the power band is like.
I actually am anxious to find out what the whole range, properly adjusted, will feel like. I synched the carbs when I got it started, but that was just idling on the center stand. I think now that the parts have gotten to know each other better that retuning and readjusting the carbs will make today seem quite tame.
It may be time to start thinking about paint....
