Are they supposed to be stock? They don't look familiar. As far as cool-looking smallblock Mopar valve covers go, ya just can't beat the ones on the Power Pak 273....

Black wrinkle finish and billet fins - too cool.

Happy trails.

Not sure if stock or not. I just know some things are hard and very hard to come by. Try finding a amc 327 4 barrel intake. thats like finding a titanium bar.

:o First time I heard that one. ::) I did have trouble with those flimsy aluminum timing gears with nylon teeth. Couldn't afford a double roller setup back then, but I (through a GOOD parts man) found an older style all steel set made for the older Mopar V8s. ;)

                                       Later on, Bill  :) ;)

i have access to an old winnebago with a 440 in it. i'm thinking a late 60's dart, the small body kind, might be fun with a big block in it.

Those valve covers in the first post are late 1960's-early 70's vintage made by the company Cal Custom.  Neat looking and desireable,  but fairly easy to find.  Value is in the $50-$70 range.

Those HP 273 valve covers are to die for- Very hard to find!

Hope this helps,
John

P.S.  Here is a pic of my 1971 Road Runner project.  A 340/automatic car originally,  I am building a 416" smallblock stroker motor for it now.  I also have a 1970 Challenger RT/SE (383/Pistol Grip 4 speed, Plum Crazy Purple) project that is waiting it's turn after the RR is done.

cool, thanks for the info.
I was trying to buy my first car in 83. It would of been a clean 70 challenger 318 bored out to 383 slapstick. My father said no way. LOL I would of probable still not be able to drive . LOL It was a fast car.

Orly?

You know why GM made aftermarket 4 bolt mains? Because they had to.

GM made engines and all of it's hardware of cheap grade steel. MOPAR, on the other hand, went with high grade metal and supeior engineering. The demand for aftermarket parts for GM cars rose drastically in the late 60's because MOPAR had no challenge and GM cars were self destructing because owners were doing things to make their collective #$%*buckets they were not made to do.

MOPAR was banned from the NSACAR circit for years because of their constant wins and did not sucumb to the pressure from the NASCAR officials (from the whines from the GM side) to handicap their cars so GM would be more competative.

And who is still king of the 1320? Could it be the 1967 engine design from the MOPAR engineers called the "Hemi". Yupper.

Oddly, my 65 Dodge Coronet with the 542 cid wedge never "blew up", but certainly did "blow by" a lot of GM #$%*boxes.

Have the best day ever.

My girlfriend is the art director for the Mopar Collectors Guide.  If you are a Mopar Collector's Guide fan, I could probably hook you up with some stuff autographed by the staff at Mopar Collector's Guide.  If you currently have pics of your pristine Mopar than you want in the mag, shoot them to me and we'll see if we can get you in.

Here's another one I am missing. Didn't get to finish it either! Budget Crunch set in and had to sell it. Was building a 440 powered runner out of this 68' Dodge truck. Had all kinds of plans including an all metal tilt front end, as you can see. Didn't have the 440 in it yet.

While Chrysler was doing some pretty good damage on the Nascar tracks, they were banned temporarily because the 426 Hemi 500 units "made for sale to the public" requirement. Richard Petty took a Hemi powered Barracuda (#43jr)to the drag strip and did some damage.

Neat!  I have been a fan of Rob Wolf's writing style for years.

Here are a couple more pics of Mopars that have been in my family.  The 1970 Superbird (Yes,  a REAL one with 24K original miles, 440-6 Barrel/automatic, that was originaly Lime-Lite Green) was my little brothers car.  That is me sitting in it when we picked it up in Colorado.  He later traded it for the 1970 Coronet R/T convertable shown (plus a boatload of money!!).  The Coronet has had a 6-Pack added to it's 440.

Oh Man, A Superbird! and a 70' Coronet R/T convertible? Umm Ummmm!! 8) My last Air Force Base to be stationed at, was Hamilton in California up until Aug 70'. I went down and priced a new Superbird and  an AAR Cuda (not mentioned here yet) and I could have bought either one for $5000, if I would have HAD $5000! ::) Then I would have to decide which one to get. ::) Much as I really was awed by the 69' Dodge Charger Daytona and the 70' Plymouth road runner Superbird, I might just have taken the AAR Cuda (340 6pk), IF I'd of had the $5000! ;D My mainest claim to fame was a red 66' Dodge Charger w/ 325hp 383, 4sp and positrac. No A/C. No Power Brakes. That's the one I miss the most! :'(
