72 CB350 Four
« on: July 22, 2005, 06:46:49 AM »
Hi People,

Question....is the charging coil attached or a part of the stator on this CB350 Four? It is not charging the battery and I understand there is a charging coil that creats or induces the magnetic field on the rotor..where is the charging coil???On the stator? If I replace the stator will I be ok?

Thanks for any help!

Before yoy buy or replace anything, check your existing parts by measuring. For the stator, measure between pairs of the yellow connecting wires. These should each read approximately 0.7 ohms. The field coil should measure (between the white and green wires) approximately 4.6 to 5.0 ohms. If these read OK and you are still not charging check the continuity of the connectors feeding them. If these are ok then you are starting to suspect the regulator.

OK I checked out the wires as you said and I did get the readings you mentioned...so  is the volt regulator the rectangle with three wires and how do I check it?

Did you check that the green wire was connected to ground?
Next step:- start the bike and check that you have 12v on the white wire at the alternator end. If there is 12v there then check for ALTERNATING voltage (about 40-50ac) between pairs of yellow wires. If there is not 12v at the white wire, next check if there is 12v coming from the regulator on the white wire. If you have voltage there then there is a break between the reg and the field coil. If there is no volts at the reg white wire check for volts at the regulator black wire. If there is 12v there then the regulator IS faulty.
When you have tried the above, get back to me.
