I just picked up a 1972 Kawasaki S2 350. Got the bike for $100..its a little rough at this time mostly looks it because its disassembled for carb cleaning by the P.O. I will be picking up the fuel tank and the other missing parts that are off of the bike tomorrow...As much as i would like to keep it stock the fact it has been repainted a non factory color and was done very well from the looks of the tail it would be a waste to have to remove it just to restore the bike to complete factory spec..so im replacing the damaged signal lights with the same ones as i used on my Interceptor, gonna look for some aftermarket headlight mounts that will fit 34 mm forks since the factory ones are bent. more or less personalizing the bike a little more...

now as for pics....

they will be posted as soon as my camera will let me upload them lol

Get those pics posted mate, those Kawa triples are neat little things, and if you find a H2 750, I wanty! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

And yea you are right bill..i do have some plans for this lil bike..namely lightening it up slightly with the change of the headlight and healight mounting ears since they are messed up..same goes with a light weight alumunum handlebar. Pondering the use of aluminum wheels at a later point. But yea its not getting as drastic a diet as my CB550...the goal with that is to get it down to 350 lbs..and have close to the same Hp as an H1 or H2.

i should clarify an earlier statement..the remark about the same HP as an H1 or H2 i ment that was my goal for the CB550 not this bike...the most im going to do to it engine wise is have some reeds fitted and eventually attempt to build some expansion chambers for a little more get up and go.

Okay, things seem to be coming together for ya on that one. Just getting it seems to be a challenge sometimes. Look at that CB350 Honda I was gonna get for $50, to use for parts (or whatever)! Oh, that's right, ya can't look at it cause the seller renigged on that deal. >:( Yeah, I made arrangements (so I thought) to meet me and I would pick it up the next afternoon. Problem is, when I called him, he said that "It's gone, guy picked it up this morning!"  >:( Never mind that I was the first caller! Oh Well, Whatever! ::)

Chris, I'm looking forward o seeing you start working this one out.8)

Well now thats just great...turns out the bike isnt even close to being original according to the triple forum bill...sounds more like a junkyard dog sort of bike with a mix of S2 and H1 parts. heres what was said about it on the triple forum...

"thats hardly all your problems, your not gonna restore this are you? Thats a bitsa bike. 72? drum front, 73 gauge pack, 72 seat and tail, wrong lights both, its neat, but its really a pile of S2 or others put together. 72 bar switches, wrong rear fender, looks to be possibly an H1 drum front, as the brake panel looks to be on the right side, not painted and on left as S2 should be. H1 shocks possibly depending on length. Probably an intersting hotrod, that tail is worth probably 200, parted out. stock parts for S2A and up abound. S2 are tougher, but available. check your numbers, see what it was.

oh and one more tip from a veteran cycle hunter. Never leave without everything in your truck that exists. The parts that he cant find? GONE. they never show up. You take whats there, look yourself, and be glad with your property.
Oh and one more thing, there was a S2 tank and side covers that color on ebay a few months ago."

Chris, your bike sounds likes it's mixed up like my 69'/70' CB450. ::)
Good luck with your build! ;)

Yeah, don't get depressed mate, you still got a bargain for 100 bucks. If it was a 750 I'd buy it, and fuuck originality! ;D

no from my understanding from reading the site of the guy that does the mod he installs the reeds in between the carbs and heads using a spacer that has the reeds attached and he also does some mods to the ports on the piston to take advantage of the now smoother flowing mix of fuel and air.

Heh it gets better...according to the bikes Vin number its actually a 1973 Kawasaki S1 250 but with a 1972 Kawasaki S2 350 engine...

Still a bargain for 100 bucks mate, I saw one at a swap meet yesterday in crap condition, (250 with 350 top end) the asking price was 900! ;D

If anything terry it being in a 250 chassis will make it hella cheep for insurance..and given i found out the seat pan is rusted out im not in any hurry to return it to even close to original anymore...

Finally got the fuel tank and sidecovers along with the carbs..Im thinking its def stayin the color it is..needs a new seat be it a stock one or a cafe style one. But at least i now have all the parts needed to get the bike to more complete status..from the looks of it i still need a battery a key switch signal lights and an air box if i wanted to go all original..but im not so all i really need is battery, custom signals, pods and key switch.

It's just as fun to ride (maybe more) if it's not original. It's also cheaper to get it in riding condition if you don't have to search for NOS this or that bit. I ran into the same trouble on my GT750. The frame is a 72 and the engine is a 75 which made it a waste of effort to restore it . I decided to chop it instead. Should be pretty fun to ride next year!

Not doing what you can to make your bike ride-able during the best riding months of the year kind of defeats the purpose of owning it in the first place.

Im seriously debating just cafeing this bike since it isnt original as it sits. I will hopefully be picking up a couple more triples from Killer Canary this spring. So i will see if one of those is savable as an original and as said just cafe this hybrid.
