CHROME engine cover on Honda 4
« on: November 04, 2007, 08:16:05 PM »
Anybody running chrome??

 I keep reading..polished..polished..polished...

I realize getting parts chromed has changed a bit over the years, but old chrome done right should last a while..

I know if it is done badly or old it can look bad..see bad stuff on ebay once in a while..

My current daily-beater 1970 cafe had chrome done about 35 years ago...holding up rather well. I actually prefer the polished look but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Also once had a K0 w/ lotsa chrome. Black paint looked cool with it.
Price of chroming nowadays is stratostrophic.

The only extra chrome I have is the valve cover. I like the bling of chrome plus it accents my black engine with silver barrels. No polishing involved. It's held up extremely well. I had it done by Brown's Plating in Paducah, Ky back in the late 70's. It's held up well. I agree that there is a lot of junk chrome eye candy out there. Looks great at first. Flaking, pitting, rusting. You gotta known and trust your plater just like your women  :D
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Yup, we had a good plater in Ontario, Platingmaster..

Mine was done in 77 I think, just showed a bit of wear this year.. sat out side under the roof overhand for a year and a half prior to that.. And I was running it in Nov and Dec  a few seasons, and they put chemicals on the roads here for de-icing that some say are corrosive.. not sure though.

I like an all silver engine with chrome, looks so bright when it is clean.. and I smoothed off my valvecover.. no lines and no wrong engine size on it...( I can remember what it is..lol)

A buddy here has chrome cases, he got them done probably around 81, held up pretty good.they have the odd dull spot..chrome does not throw well into cavities sometimes..

I'd be soiling myself with worry if I got cases done (unless it was Brown,s or someone like them), if there was any problems it would be a huge PITA...
