Anything near that size would be fairly easy to build from scratch,  Do you think the factory bikes were jumped off a battery for cold start?

I would think a version of a dirt bikemag could be made to work somehow.. looks like the wound coils are the work.. the rotor appears to be drilled with magnets pushed in..

 pricey litle unit eh??

Thanks Bunny, this is typical of reports that abound.

This artical states he finished without a hint of trouble, other people tell he nursed it home on three cylinders, and on inspection, no cam chain adjuster.

It also states he was never headed, other reports say lost the lead several times.

I hoped we could have tempted some of the team to come on board to tell the story, but it don't seem to be happening dispite a lot of peoples efforts.

just bear in mind that the scan by MoTo-BunnY is a Honda America publicity bulletin Sam, it may not contain some of the problems they had  ;D

The story I heard from the Honda rep we had befriended during my racing years was short: "Mann managed to keep the lead just enough to keep the engine together. At post-race teardown, the lead Honda engineer was reported to have turned to Dick and said, "You did fine. There was maybe one lap left in this cam chain." "

That sounds about like other Japanese engineer's "congrats" I've heard over the years: more than understated!

Here's another old Honda racing ad. I realize its not the same bike or anything - its from a 1966 Cycle World magazine. I just thought it was kewl - those old racing outfits were a trip! (Also notice how the bike and racers outfit AREN'T all smothered with corporate logos!)

looks like Ralph Bryans helmet design, pity not in colour, would be red with white stripes. Yes just black leathers mostly back then, very little in the way of sonsorship.

It is Ralph Malc.  The bike he is riding was a bit of a flop though. It was Hondas first atempt at a 500cc machine.
It was a twin, based on the 444cc Black Bomber they brought out in 1965. It was only raced once, at Oulton Park and was so slow, it was never seen again. :( :( :(

           Thanks ekim, I appreciate that. I may not be able to do much else but, I sure can admire those bikes and ALL those who had anything involvement back then. 8) ;) I remember thinking  about how awesome those multicylinder (more than 2 cylinder, especially 4 or more cyls) bikes were and how they would be on the streets! And then, later, the Cb750K0 appeared! 8)

Very interesting topic..any one know how the CB 750 differs in dimension from the CB550? As i have stated before im going to be installing a full fairing..just deciding between the CR750 fairing and the full Dunstall fairing also offered by airtech.

The fairings offered by most manufacturers for the 750 would look a little on the large side on a 550.

You might want to check out Glass from the past,  www.caferacingparts.com   I think his name is Greg and is a member of this forum.

He might be able to find you something to suit the 550.

My attempts to get in touch with Bob Hansen and see if he would participate with this whole Daytona/CR issue hasn't materialized.

If there is anyone out there who might have "an in" with Mr. Hansen please see if he can be persuaded to come on here and share with us his involvement in the project!

I lived in Beaumont until 1992,  they were just down the road (other side of Lamar University).  They were a Honda dealer and added Ski Doo watercraft to their line up.
