Those fork sliders look a little odd. Not from a 1970 CR to my eyes - check out any decent pic of Dick Mann's bike, there should be a much deeper grove between the studs fore and aft extending into the main body of the slider and the end caps seem a rather poor match, especially for a works bike. Any thoughts anyone of what they might be from?
Good picture of the oil cooler though. Thanks Sam.

Eric

I thought that as well Eric when I saw the pics but thought perhaps they had been put on back to front, and yes, BEN took the pics. ;D ;D ;D

Please find out all you can about this frame etc.

I've been trying for the last 3 hours to find his phone number Mark.
I've phoned Steve Murray as I know he has it but couldn't get a connection to him.
I spoke to Simon (lordmoonpie) but he didn't have it and gave me the number of a person who did but I got no answer.
I,ve tried Tony Huck (Maitland racing) but no answer there as well.
I'll keep trying.

Well knowing the bloke who's selling it I know some of what he owns. He has two (genuine) Honda France endurance spec. CR750s from the very early 70's. These featured a modified 'factory' frame with a narrower angle between the frame triangle up to the headstock as viewed from the side or as Sam puts it, a smaller space for the coils. This also had the benefit of greater ground clearance for extreme cornering.

I know said chap is selling some of his old stuff off and has sold one of the spare genuine honda france frames already, months before the Stafford show. I'm also aware that before selling it he lent it to the eventual purchaser who had a modern replica made out of Reynolds tubing - same design but much lighter.

Based on that I suspect this is the other frame of at least two spares he had for the two complete endurance facory racers. In that case it's genuine as genuine gets in this game....damn it all - I browsed on that stall and missed those fork legs completely having been mesmerised by the 4LS Fontana front drum!  :D

Brilliant atuff Ben - look forward to hearing where you're going to race so I can come and see the "Chip off the old block" burning up the tarmac! I was just kiddin' about school by the way - you go and study hard and get good grades. Good grades equals a good job and good job equals good pay (relative in this world...) and good pay equals.....lots and lots of bikes and toys!  ;D

So, you keep your head down in those books young 'un and you can have the best of both worlds.  ;)

This is all a very interesting read. I'm 28 now, and I got my start in motorcycles about 4 years ago when I watched my uncle race Dick Mann at "The Farm" in Chehalis, WA. From what I understand, Dick Mann does the motocross track layout and helps with the organization of the event, and last I heard, he was still riding his BSA motocross bike.

Please excuse the interruption if this is wrong place to post this, but I'm desperately trying to find photos of the oil tank mounting arrangement on the CR750, so I can properly mount the tank on my CB/CR project.  I've been coming up with nothing.  Can anyone point me to photos of the frame differences in this area and the bracketry?

TIA.

Keith, If no-one posts it, my seat is off currently so I can take a picture tomorrow and post up if you want. It needs a new bracket on the frame rails at the top and bottom either side from memory...

Keith - go to post number four, picture number three on the Hishiki Sumiya thread on this hipo forum, currently page one and you can see the bottom mount for the oil tank from the left hand side. This is a plate welded to the frame rails, one each side for the tank to sit on (note not bolted). I will send you a pic of the top mount later tomorrow...
