Can someone help with the OD and ID (In mm's) of the top ring (holding the glass) of the real 970 part tach? H2Eric maybe.

Thought I would document my CR build here, should I start a topic in the projects section or in the racing forum?

Thanks Kevin

Sam, A Mann's bike for sure, it remains to be seen if I'm man enough for the machine.......... :o
Hey nothing wrong with them little screamers.. ;)

I was at Mosport for the 40th anniversary of the GP and met Tom Faulds and he told me the whole story about the 6 that he rescued from the science center and eventually went back to Japan. he said that Honda didn't even know it was there. It was a 297cc model and he happened to have a used piston.

Kevin

Met Mr. Faulds at an event in North Bay a couple of yrs ago, interesting fella and an interesting story, especially the part about how Honda got the bike back. Was introduced by a buddy of mine, Fred Gailey, Mosport GP winner 1964 (or 65, hmmm). Beautiful little machine, the cam gear drives are a beauty to behold.

Hi Kevin
The OD of the top ring is 80.40mm which would indicate that the glass itself is 80.00mm. Can't tell for sure as the ring doesn't appear to come off. It looks like it was pressed on at the factory and they never intended for it to come apart. If perchance it does come to bits could someone enlighten me.

Cheers

Thanks Sam. It's going to be good one.

Eric, thanks that is what I was looking for . the other size was the width of that same ring. When looking at the face it's the section over the Glass face. many thanks.

Oh, I don't think they are meant to come apart.

Eric, the measurements of mine are the same. Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to replace the rubber support o-ring? Thanks! RR

That's exactly what I was looking for many thanks H2eric and RR for comfirmation.

To replace the o-ring, get one the same size and cut it, then join together with super glue. I'm going to do this with the set up i am making for my oil pressure gauge.

Thanks, Kevin. Great solution. I didn't fancy prying open the clips holding the o-ring and possibly breaking them.   :'(  RR

Did you really get this to work Kevin? I had the same problem on my Bomber and it keeps shearing the new o-ring at the superglued joint....bit of a loss of what to do now although someone suggested "gorilla glue"?!

Welcome back Simon, hope you are recovering from your op OK. finally got my new rims delivered to the shipper so should have them soon with the exhaust you sent....can't wait to get them in my hands.

I have not tried it myself yet, but i know some one that did and it seemed to work OK, I do know he used an O-ring specific glue. Could have been the Locktite brand or best Loc brand. I will try it and report back if it works.

Hi guys.I have some info to add re CR's that made it to Canada.I worked for Nelson Motorcycles in Toronto in 1970.I bought my k0 that year and witnessed the arrival of the CR kit to the shop that was built into a race bike, overseen by mechanic Dwight Teague. This machine was ridden by the then Mike Duff and holds the lap record of the now closed Harewood Acres circuit.A complete CR engine also arrived at some point however I never saw it apart.Tom Faulds was a close friend of John Nelson and was the National Service Manager of Canadian Honda, later a corporate V.P. and my employer 75'-77'.                          Rock On

I have been asked to find a buyer for this...the last bike that Bob Hansen built.  Bob was man responsible for Mr Honda's Honda's decision to build the Honda CB750 as a four cylinder. It was to be a BIG TWIN...until Bob sat with Mr Honda at a meeting in Japan. Bob was know for his Team Hansen G50's that were painted orange and won most races entered. He also had Honda R&D build him 3 CR450's to be raced at Daytona in 1967. He masterminded the Dick Mann winning effort at Daytona in 1970. Bob also helped American become established in early 60's.

Please contact me if you are interested in this rare piece.

I haven't introduced myself to this forum but I'm building a CB750R replica myself.
You can follow the build on the Dutch website http://www.motor-forum.nl/forum/list_messages/217939/Dick-Mann-replica-1.html
Already two years into the build i keep on discovering bits and pieces that a proper CR replica should have.
With the lack of money to buy as many original parts as i can i am forced into building most parts myself.

I will recieve some parts from Lordmoonpie shortly, wherefore my gratitute, so i can put together the front end.
The base was a K7, completly wrong as i discovered after a few months, but i am currently changing some earlier decisions.

My question is:
Does anybody know the dimensions for the frontlegs (aluminium lower ones) from the kit cr?
The dimensions where i am specificly searching for are: Outer diameter, total length and center to center distance for the 4 bolts with wich the front axle is held in place. I am assuming these are M6 ?

Note the difference between the pics, the latter being the front legs wich are on the French Daytona bike.

Hi.The lower 4 bolt cap legs you show are I believe the works magnesium  units. The kit forks I have on my unit. They are the same lowers as used on K0 street units. The stanchions are same internally as street units but are one inch longer than stock for the 18" front wheel that was used and are also chrome plated top to bottom as opposed to street units that were only plated up to the headlight ears.At one point I had a set of works forks that were unsuitable for stock frame as they were much shorter than even the CB units. They were quite a piece though having the aforementioned mag lowers and titanium stanchions and lower tree.    Rock On

Hi Simon,

Well just the regular chit chat about original parts, and how to recognize them.
I'll try posting in English the next time so you can read along.

I was wondering if anybody had a database of original parts with specifics and measurements.
I have a partslist for a CR750 kit version but i can not help to think that some parts are missing in this list.
Back in Holland i am a teacher in mechanical engineering and engineering. I work for my proffesion with Autodesk Inventor and am trying to put as many original parts as possible in this 3d CAD program. Just got over 550 different parts wich i have already drawn. (With some parts i had to smuggle a bit because they are quite difficult to draw and measure)

Still looking for accurate dimensions the frontlegs and tank fillercap.
