1975 cb550k1 - Tires. 3.25x19 and 4.00x18 - what and where?
« on: November 05, 2007, 11:46:10 AM »
I've decided to spam the forum again, and I'm going to try to get it all out in one day so I can disappear and leave you all in peace again.  I've finally admitted that my tires are dangerous and need to go and want to go ahead and get them bought and on my bike.  I swear I think the tires on there are almost original, and they are cracked to hell and back, so anything will be an improvement.  I don't ride too terribly spirited as there are too many issues I'm slowly working out.

I've read through what I can turn up in the search.  I'm leaning towards a set of  Metzler Lasertec's, but they look like they will run $210-$250 shipped just for the tire.  I remember seeing another model recomended that was cheaper, but can't turn it up this time around.

I'm fairly committed to the 3.25 x 19 and 4 x 18 tire sizes, as that seems to be the best fit from what I've read.  I'm not committed to a look, just a well made tire at a good price.

Take a look at the Dunlop TT100's some say that these tires handle really well on our old bikes.  I ordered my tires from this americanmoto and had excellent service.

I have always run the Dunlop 491 Elite II series on my bike..not a bad price and they last forever..
I've been 'told that these are the longest lasting tires you can get for $120-175 each.

I've heard that too, but if it's the same tread, it seems that a modern tread would be better.  Although the tt1000's are $100 less than the metz or the elite 2's

I've been pretty happy with the new(ish?) Avon RoadRiders. A very grippy tire at a price that's lower than comparable sport tires. They come in a lot of sizes to fit our bikes, 3.25x19 and 4.00x18 included.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame
