Vinyl Seat Cleaners & Protectors?
« on: November 06, 2007, 08:30:21 PM »
I just bought a sweet original seat for my 1975 CB750F off eBay and I'm wondering what you all use to protect and condition your vinyl seats.  I want to keep this expensive & hard-to-find seat in great condition.

Thanks in advance for any advice that you can give!

I use ArmorAll Tire Foam - the stuff that you spray onto car tires to make them black and shiney.

Spray a little onto a rag and wipe over any black plastic parts. Brings them up like new!

BTW: it's really for car tires so be very careful if you spray it onto bike tires (hint: keep it away from the tread pattern!)

And for <<Insert deity of your choice here>> sakes!  Keep it out of the sun!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Thanks for the replies!

OldSchool-  I don't intend to let my bike sit out in the sun all day,  but do you think that a rubber/vinyl protector with UV blocker would help?

P.S.  I don't want to use something that will make the seat super slippery.

Thanks again,
John

John,

Any dressing will make the seat VERY slippery (ask me how I know ;) ).  To clean, I would just use some warmish water lightly put onto a rag and get the dirt off.  If yu get a lot of dust in the creases, use a wet Q-tip to get in there.

As long as you keep it from really prolonged periods in the sun, it should not be a problem.  If you are going to store it over the winter, then by all means use a little vinyl dressing, by the time Spring comes around, it will no longer be that slippery anyway.
