73 cb500 4 only stays in one gear..............

thinking about buying a 73 cb5004 the guy said it has trans problems he said it only goes in to one gear?? so i'm guessing it has only one gear would anybody know what could it be by any chance. i seen a thread on hear about a clip breaking in side could it be something small like that thanks for any response

I hear there is a spring under the shifter cover that can pop off and then render the shifter arm useless... worth investigation.
